Player being down=Armor lock?(Campaign)

So we’ve all seen that players can now get down in campaign (similar to Gears of War’s “down” mechanic) and at that point require another player/AI to come revive them lest they die and are forced to wait until the next checkpoint to respawn. I’m all for this, but have one simple question (Grim, if you see this and this happens to be an answerable question, then by all means shed some light on this for us), while down, do our Spartans initiate armor lock?

What I mean by that is will the player still take damage from enemy AI while down? Drastically speeding up their bleed out time? Or will their shields enter armor lock, making it impenetrable to any additional damage while on the ground? I for one, think having their shields enter armor lock while down would be a very logical and “immersive” way to explain why they simply stay put in one position while down and don’t take any additional damage (IF they dont take any damage while down) until back on their feet and out of armor lock mode. What do you guys think?

To me, they should take additional damage. It doesn’t make sense how a downed Spartan, surrounded by enemies, wouldn’t be finished off. In the Campaign demo playthrough, a Spartan was downed, and they were still being attacked by the Phaeton. I can’t really see if the Phaeton attacking her, sped up the bleed out process. It looked like it did a little, but then again didn’t.

I think the downed player/AI entering armor lock would be a cool (and non-OP, annoying, stupid, “enter additional insults here”) way to bring back armor lock, and it seems like something a Spartan would do if injured on a raging battlefield while still vulnerable to additional enemy fire and in need of assistance/revival.

I was confused at first, but they could be going into an armor lock mode, even though it doesn’t look exactly the same. I think there should be more visuals to show that it’s actually Armor lock.

That’s a good question.

I think that would be the perfect way to describe what is happening. Kind of an emergency life-saving protocol built into the armor to prevent fatal injuries.

Like how Master Chief’s armor was actually locked when he fell from the space in Halo 3.

Grim!!! Grim!!! Get in here :stuck_out_tongue:

Exactly. I’m just really curious about what happens if you go down in singleplayer. Will enemies still attack you, etc etc.

Don’t you only have so much time to get to them before they actually do die?

I think that would make sense. I have yet to see a downed player be able to move closer to AI or another player.

I like this idea. It would be a nice little nod to the Halo: Reach fans.

This could definitely be the case. Even if the Spartan still takes damage, this could be explained by the fact that the armour lock isn’t 100% impenetrable. It was impenetrable in Reach, but it could only be used for a very short time, so in H5 it sacrifices safety for duration. I also think the revive mechanic could be explained by the green glow that appears around the Spartans during a revive: the overshield. I think the reviver approaches the ‘revivee’ and activates their armour’s overshield, giving them time to stand and giving their armour time to heal them without taking damage. A lore explanation for the way Spartans only use overshields in extreme situations would be that it puts strain on the armour’s reactors and could be unstable.
