Playable Sangheili

I’m still holding out hope for invasion down the line at some point. And when it comes you could have an elite themed battle pass with it. Would be nice to get the brutes playable and customizable as well even if only for invasion.

Yeh it’s a shame the original mega-thread is now gone but seeing as Halo Infinite is going to be here a while I guess this thread should be around for a while so won’t need to move it any time soon. I really hope they reconsider adding them back into Halo again since it’s fun to play as them in MCC.

Sorry about that. The system accidentally logged me and, I’m guessing by your other deleted posts in this thread, other people in as you and I didn’t notice before I had already posted.

As I originally posted: If Halo Infinite can’t even include female Spartans after 11 years of including female gamers as a standard feature, then I doubt we’ll see playable Sangheili.

I think we will have female Spartans at launch. Just not the H4/5 body types.

Playable Brutes would be pretty cool, but I’d trade them for playable Elites any day.

343’s biggest problem is that they’re constantly limiting themselves by always trying to make Spartans the center of attention. Yes, Spartans are cool, but not everything has to be focused around them.

The new Elite designs are so amazing as well, imagine getting to play as a Sangheili wearing the Spartan Killer armor

What about playable Jackals? Their new design is my favorite alien design in any video game.

I’d like to be able to select between the three subspecies, Ruuhtian, Ibie’shan, and T’vaoan and customize their energy gauntlets like the standard shield or Skirmisher Murmillo braces, god those look so cool.

Maybe for a different game type. It wouldn’t work for standard PVP because of how much smaller and skinnier Jackals are compared to Spartans and Elites. You’d have to beef them up so much that it wouldn’t even be a Jackal anymore.

This is exactly what I hope they don’t do. The Elites should be huge. Canonically they’re bigger than Spartans, so they shouldn’t have the same hitboxes. Yes, it would affect balance, but that’s why they could be limited to certain game types as others have suggested and also allowed in custom games.

Edit: Having said that, if my two options were Spartan-sized Elites or no Elites at all, I’d begrudgingly accept the former.

I’m down for it, and now I want to play as grunts too. Yapyap the Destroyer, anyone?

I liked Halo 2 and 3’s approach over anything else. I don’t want to be limited to just Invasion and custom games to play as an Elite. I want to be able to play as an Elite in every game mode, I want to see both Spartans and Elites fighting against, and beside each other like I did in Halo 3.

I prefer Elites to be larger, but if this is the only way to be able to play as an Elite in all modes I will gladly take it. Plus I don’t want to be at a disadvantage for playing as an Elite with a larger hitbox, even if it does mean more of a challenge.

That’s understandable. If they could find a way to make it work, that would be cool.

There are other ways they could maintain balance. For instance, they could make Elites have a little more health and shields to counteract the disadvantage that being bigger might be. It would be tough to get the balance just right, but I think it could be done. And I think it would be more fun for the Elites to play somewhat differently from Spartans. The only downside to that is people not taking the differences to account when designing Forge maps. I’ve encountered a number of teleporters I couldn’t enter in Reach’s custom game browser, for example. One particularly bad instance had a low clearance at the very end of a long and grueling parkour-style map that Spartans could go under, but I, as an Elite, couldn’t, and was stuck.

Well, then we’d have to measure how much bigger an Elite’s hitbox is compared to a Spartan. If it’s only a little bit bigger and doesn’t make too much of a difference, by making Elites tougher you’re subtlety putting them at an advantage. You’d have to make Elite’s hitboxes considerably larger in order to fairly put a buff on Elites,.

Not gonna lie, I don’t really want to go that route with Elites. If we’re going to be playing as huge aliens that are really tough we might as well have playable Brutes instead, considering the Banished are the antagonists of Halo Infinite.

I think they’ve stated that elites aren’t off the table they’re just not priority for launch. I can definitely see them being added later.

The problem isn’t very complex, Elites have been in halo alongside Spartans before, and things worked fine.

The problem is that these games have been focusing majorly on competitive gameplay, which that part of the community has no intrest in Elites or finds them a burden. (I might be wrong, so if anyone is comp and wants it please let me know ^.^)

343 knows there’s a demand for playable Elites, small or not. It’s been here for nearly 10 years now. We’ve given dozens of different ways it could work. They even themed a MCC season after the announcement that Elites were not in Infinite multiplayer. So we’ll see what they do, but who knows.

My only problem with this, is I want Elites fighting alongside Spartans as well. It’s both part of the lore, and it makes me feel proud that Humanity has an ally against impossible odds.

It’s odd that older titles with 3 year development cycles had playable elites.

Yet this Halo game. With double the development time (6 years) AND bigger budget, AND much bigger development staff, AND the mechanics would not need to be rebuilt from scratch. Could not have this feature in at launch.

It’s also missing:

Coop
Forge
Assassinations

Begs the question why 6 years for development when it is still shipping without a lot of what the older titles shipped with when they only needed half the development time?

And I’m dubious about this new game engine they are using. Since for flora there’s not even simulated wind, no blood, no player collision, no explosion decals from grenades, physics are basic and more. I also believe Halo 3 had better vehicle destruction.
