Do not get me wrong - I love MLG, Tactical game types & really miss 2v2. However, I was thinking that I would really love to play as a Hunter one time.
Obviously this can not be done during the campaign (obvious reasons). Although, why not a matchmaking session like the flood but two people are the Hunters?
It’s been brought up before. Back when Halo 2 came out me and my friends were wondering if they’d add more than just Spartans/Elites, and give us brutes/grunts/hunters etc.
I always thought it’d be a cool concept. Maybe like a Covie vs. Humans thing, or even playable forerunners.

This. I didn’t like many things in Reach but I LOVED invasion. Halo 4 needs a game type like Invasion.
Ever since Halo 2 had Elites I had dreams of future Halos having Grunts, Brutes, Jackals, Marines, ODSTs, Hunters, and more as playable classes/characters for multiplayer…
Reminds me of Beast mode in GoW3. As you rack up points, you earn the ability to buy different playable races ie: hunter, jackal, elite, grunt, engineer, etc.
Gears of war 3 made me really happy with the beast mode. Playing as a ticker to what ever that big unstoppable dude was awesome. If halo did something like that but better, that would be really awesome.
Gears of War popularized the Horde “type” mode, sure it wasn’t the first game to do it but after GOW2 you started seeing stuff like Zombies, Spec Ops, Firefight, etc more often in several games. I would be happy if the Beast mode in Gears had the same influence.
It’d be pretty cool to give us some really wild gametype options. Mutators that turn players into Elites or Prometheans would be cool and pretty useful.
they could be like the Flood mutator for Zombies. They would have a limited sets of abilities and such that make them unique. Elites would have that big kick instead of a melee and they could jump pretty high. Prometheans can teleport a short distance instead of use a thruster pack and they can only melee and use Promethean weapons.
Stuff like that. A Hunter would control more like a vehicle then a player I think, which could be neat and spawn some really neat gametypes. You know how they like to curl into an armored ball? That’d be its AA ability. And the melee would be its big shield chop.
That would be quite fun. Although if it was like Gears’s Horde mode, I would be annoyed. I hate having to “unlock” the higher enemies, possibly even losing access to them. And it’s horrible when the game ends just as you unlock something fun.
Not that I’m against playing as Covie’s or anything. Who wants to join me in a suicide grunt mission?

I’d actually be game for a Beast Mode equivalent in Halo 4 or 5.
I had a TON of fun playing Beast mode in Gears3. If there was anything at all I think would be genius to copy from Gears3 it’d be Beast Mode.
Firefight already borrowed the concept of Horde (to an extent.) Might as well do more good things too.
My answer to you my friend is halo: edited addition (not sure if i got the name right) but its a heavily modded verison of halo:ce on windows with many mods that allow you to play as other species. Thats probably going to be the only time it’ll be possible.

Yeah. Shame too.
That is one of the big problems a lot of Devs who do this content creation thing get stuck into.
I mean for 343i it is probably like “Hey look! We gave you a pretty decent map creator and a few nice playgrounds to play with it on! We have a lot of the same option for gametypes you are used to also!”
But for us it will always be “Hey, why is it that five halo games in and I still can’t do anything really wild like spawn both teams as Grunts with infinite grenades? And how come you removed VIP? I realize the Gametype doesn’t see much play in matchmaking but why totally remove it from the realm of Forge possibilities?”
They need to come to terms with the fact that the only perfect way to rock Forge/Gametype creation is to add TONS of options. Options on top of options. You wanna spawn one player on both teams as a Hunter? Do it. You want that Hunter to ALSO regenerate his teams ammo within a certain range? Done. You want the round to end as a loss if your Hunter dies? MAKE IT SO NUMBER ONE. And now everyone on the Hunters team spawn as Grunts with a variety of Grunt loadouts.
If you flood the community with options the community turns around and flood the game with new content. The more limited the options the less creative the returns. You need to put in weird to get out awesome.
I doubt we’ll see anything aside from clever Slayer or CTF maps in Halo4. I mean really what other really out there goals can someone manage? Maybe some guy creates some weird, more complex Grifball field or you get those dudes who make wicked obstacle courses but how many of those do you expect to see a ton of play? I’m really hoping I end up wrong and Halo 4 Forge blows up.
God knows the Fileshare system being totally useless on release has already done permanent harm to the content creation community.
> 343i will fail if they do not bring back 2v2 & become innovative & allow gametypes like play vs hunter in as DLC or matchmaking update.

Seriously that’s a group that needs some more classes that aren’t annoying gits. I don’t mind the knights but two remakes of the Skirmishers and Buggers is not a fun new enemy. Rather you took the most annoying two classes and remade them even more annoying.
