So my girlfriend “PsychoScented” and I “Visceral Vic”, ranked Gold 6 and Platinum 4 respectively, were playing SWAT matchmaking with balanced search preferences tonight and found ourselves facing not one, but two Champion ranked players. Needless to say we were utterly decimated over the next minute or so. Then once again we were pitted against them. The difference in their skills and ours was devastating. My question for 343 is as follows: How in the HELL were these matches “balanced” in any way, shape, or form; how did the game not rectify the match and allow for yet another pulverizing experience? You punish players for quitting, this I understand, but punishing players for playing is beyond my comprehension.
I checked the games you mentioned. The enemy team consisted of 2 Champions and 2 Bronze-ranked players. Whether these were actual Bronze rankers or smurf accounts is unknown to me. The matchmaking system likely attempts to match based on average rank of the team, as trying to match based on each individual player would be too difficult, especially for premade fireteams of extremely varied ranks. Some high ranking players purposely form teams with low ranking players so that the average rank of their team is somewhere in the middle, which allows the high rankers to play against opponents that are likely vastly below their own skill level. While it is unfortunate that players take advantage of the system this way, there really isn’t a way to stop it without sacrificing fast matching times and other aspects like connection quality. I would not suggest reporting the Champions you played against simply because they were too good; that technically is an abuse of the report system and can backfire. If they were actively doing something reportable like being unsporting, abusing the communication system, etc. then you could submit a relevant report and hope that eventually their rep would be affected so that you wouldn’t match with them. But in general, I would say keep playing; looking further back in your history, it seems most of your games are more evenly matched (often in your favor), so for the most part the matchmaking looks fair. Occasionally you may encounter these unfair matches, but note that in these cases, any CSR you lose will be lessened because you lost against people way above your rank (Onyx and Champion players get minimal CSR gains from victories against lesser ranks).
Well, I’m Platinum I, and am planning on officially never playing Arena again.
Definitely the case of smurfing happening here. Report all 4 of them, the two bronze for smurfing, and the 2 champions for collaborating with them and then block them. Its unfortunate that it happens but try and move on.

Blocking players on Xbox live no longer affects matchmaking with them; it only prevents them from friending you, messaging you, or viewing your activity.
Happened to me (team 1) 2 champions and 2 onyx
(Team 2) 2 unranked 1 platinum 1 gold don’t see how that’s fair
