Since they are both fully automatic covenant weaponry and very similar I wonder how they will be different.
I figure the plasma rifle will have a slower rate of fire but take longer to overheat and have better range then the storm rifle. This would make it different enough to be used without being inherently better then it or inherently worse then it.
My highest expectation would be it being a dual wielded weapon that is mythic rarity and functions very similar to the storm rifle (perhaps a bit weaker so it isn’t the best weapon in halo history) but I doubt this is the case.
My lowest expectation is a reskinned storm rifle but I doubt this is the case either.
Thoughts?

I thought that was the plasma repeater from Reach but it might’ve, been a while since I’ve used a plasma rifle in H2 (assuming it will be based on that since we saw a red one in the trailer)
storm rifle is more accurate and has a slightly better range, where as the plasma rifle always felt like a sluggish version of a sub machine gun
I can’t wait to see how the plasma rifle works on here.
The Halo CE plasma rifle had a stun function, where you couldn’t move as the plasma bolts hit you. This would be a neat function to have, but potentially tough to balance well. It would have to be a fairly close range weapon, which it always has been, anyway, slower ROF, but take longer to overheat.
Maybe the plasma rifle won’t be ludicrously overpowered.

lol. It would, if its ideal kill time wasn’t at least half the overheat time and it didn’t still kill EXTREMELY quickly and easily when burst firing. The only situation in which the overheat will be a major factor is against other storm rifles or SMGs, with similarly ridiculous kill times and low skill requirements.

Plasma rifle speeds up over time, plasma repeater slowed down over time.
Probably better range and accuracy. More like an assault rifle.
