If only one of these could be included in Halo 5, which one would you like to see the most?
The good old Plasma Rifle? Or the newly introduced Storm Rifle? Maybe the Reach exclusive Plasma Repeater?
(On a side note: I think there is a big chance that we’re gonna get the Plasma Rifle since the Swords of Sanghelios will be in the game, we can even see one wielded by a red-coloured Elite in the Halo 2 Anniversary Prologue. And all the information we got highly suggests that 'Mdama’s faction is also playing a role, which should bring us the return of the Storm Rifle as well.)
I don’t think they should abandon the Storm Rifle, it’s pretty cool looking and it’s 343’s design, but I think I’ll miss the Plasma Rifle if it’s gone two games in a row. Maybe they’ll do it like you said where the Swords of Sanghelios will use the Plasma Rifle while the Remnant uses the Storm Rifle.
We already have classic with H4 models of Banshees, Jackals, and Grunts seen in trailers, terminal, and the poster, which leads me to think they’re trying to homogenize the art style a bit between classic and H4, or at least for us to differentiate between the Remnant and the Swords.

Yeah, pretty much what I thought. It would also give more diversity to the whole game. More different weapons, vehicles and enemy types (even if it’s just artistic difference) is always good for a game.
What I’d like to see is a Storm Rifle with Repeater characteristics, because they were both terrible on their own. Probably a damage but as well, maybe with a slight ROF nerf.
As for the Plasma Rifle, I’m not so sure it’ll be there. It might well be, but it depends on how prevalent the Swords are in the game, which I’m inclined to think is not very much. Additionally, Blur was reusing their assets for that cutscene. The old BR is there too, and that surely isn’t going to be in.

Yeah, speaking of that cutscene you’re right. But still, the Arbiter will be there for sure (and I think 343 wouldn’t dare putting him only in cutscenes, but actual gameplay). And (this really is pure speculation) I think we’ll see some of his troops as well. The poster and the trailers suggests that Sanghelios will be one of the main locations after all. And I just can’t imagine them wielding the Storm rifle.
Maybe have the Storm Rifle as an AR counterpart and the Plasma Rifle as a SMG counterpart?

Hmm… Yeah, actually I haven’t even thought about the fact that there are (at least) two UNSC auto rifles in H5. So why wouldn’t the Covenant arsenal get the same treatment?

Well there’s the SAW, but I’d say in terms of kill times and OP-ness the Needler is the counterpart for the SAW?

I agree. I hope the SAW will make a return anyway. Essentially it was a power weapon form of the AR.
I liked the plasma repeater from Reach more than the Storm Rifle but the OG Plasma Rifle will always be my ultimate favorite.
THY Plasma Rifle;
ie, CE’s stunning automatic rifle.
Ever since Reach I have questioned why the stunning plasma weapons, not all but at least a couple, could not return… I mean, HELLO!!! SPRINT AND DODGE!!!
And especially if one of the pillars of H5 is “Your team is your weapon” then I want my medium velocity stunning rounds for 2-Spartan fireteams running around a map like Pac-Man eating up uncooperative opponents with 1 person stunning and the other capping domes!
I want the movement mechanics we have in H5 but I also like the idea that a charged PP shot can drop a Spartan out of sprint as well as their shields as Thruster can be used to avoid an overcharged PP.
I don’t believe a PP overcharged shot should affect Thruster’s ability to be used but I do like the idea that while being shot by a regular firemode PP or a PR, Thruster doesn’t quite get us as far and a sprinter is at least slowed but not stopped… That’s the overcharged shot choice.
Ditto for clamber. An overcharged PP shot just drops shields but being hit by regular PP or PR shots slows us down just that little more. … Should not actually slow base airborne speed. Can affect the Thruster’s influence to reduce bump distance but it doesn’t actually slow a player’s momentum while in the air. Shoulder Charge and Slide won’t be useable until getting back up to full sprinting speed. The slowdown effects on Sprint only occur once at full speed, before then, all damage prevents achieving full sprint.
Ground Pound is not affected by the speed reductions.
Incentive to use these weapons should be that you “kill” your opponent’s more mobile options because of the slower nature of the projectiles. Of course the most it can do is drop basemovement speed by 25% (maybe slightly more) and sprinting speed down to 50% of delta but knowing you can assist your team very quickly using some of the plasma-based weapons while also messing with the cadence of an opponent’s abilities can definitely help to hear more “pew pew pew” with the “bang bang bang.”
I honestly don’t care what the weapon looks like, I just want one that functions like the CE plasma Rifle. Every blue plasma weapon after that has been a version of a blue SMG so the mechanics are what matter to me not the aesthetics aside from it being blue.
Noticable Plasma Damage
Plasma Stun
Low base spread
headshot multiplier(should be higher than SMG or AR) unlike those weapons the CE plasma rifle actual deserved a headshot multiplier due to its low spread.
These are the details that are important to me, I don’t care if the weapon that uses them happens to be the Storm Rifle or whatever.
I’m curious to see how smart scope works on these guns.
Found the Plasma Repeater to have a much more interesting design than the other two, and I think it was a great weapon, one of my favorites from reach
I think the storm rifle looks stupid compared to the regular plasma rifle so I would like to see the plasma rifle come back. Make it more accurate, and up the speed of it’s projectiles some.
Since apparently they are gonna put zoom on every weapon, I guess it would be cool to see it’s zoom work like it does for the UNSC assault rifle.
The storm rifle was slick!!! And it was the best automatic in halo 4 IMO that thing melted through shields like butter. Haven’t liked the plasma rifle since CE really and the plasma repeater was Terribad in halo reach. Got to go with the storm rifle besides why introduce a new weapon just to get rid of it next game?
Wouldn’t mind all of them being in, like each one of them. Would love a Saw style plasma weapon for the Covenant Remnant.

Maybe they’ll change their design(s)? Actually I can imagine a little scope-like thing on the Storm Rifle. It might look cool.
I dont know why they dont just bring every weapon back. While most weapons do the same thing and over saturation of the sandbox may be an issue, it wouldn’t be a bad thing. Maybe have the plasma rifle on Arbiters covenant maps, and have the mauler take place of a boltshot on brutish style maps.
Maybe its just a wet dream to think that all weapons, armor, and vehicles would come full circle for a halo game.

Now that’s the exact diversity I want to see someday. There are just so many weapons (and vehicles) in the Halo Universe already. Unfortunately the developement time and the preferences kicks in. (By preferences I mean, it’s not meant to be an open world game, it’s a relatively short Campaign with a competitive Multiplayer, so they’ll focus on other assets of the game, rather than giving us a huge weaponry.) Would be cool though.
