I am trying to finish up weapon commendations but am facing a big obstacle. The Brute plasma rifle sucks, I understand it’s made to tear down shields which then gives you the option of melee or weapon swap, but for a commendation that requires a kill with the weapon the task is proving rather difficult and frustrating. I was hoping to collect some tips or strategies from people who have already gone through this challenge.
For killing people, the base Brute Plasma Rifle is awful because it overheats so quickly. So you’ll likely burn out before you kill someone with it. The most effective way to get kills with it is to follow your teammates around with it and hope to steal their kills, get cleanup kills with it (best option), or camp corners and catch people off guard with it. It’s 2nd and 3rd variants, Sorrow of Teash and Scale of Soirapt, are a little better since you can get a kill before they overheat on you. Unless you’re an avid player of Super Fiesta (like myself), you’re not very likely to see those anywhere else.

Just grind out Super Fiesta. It’ll happen eventually.
Doing SF makes it go faster because you do at least have a chance of getting the advanced variants.
Burst it. When you’ve heated to about halfway thrust to dodge any attacks you’re taking which let’s the weapon cool a tiny but allowing you launch a few extra rounds. I think it kills in the same number of rounds it takes to overheat so those few extra bolts can make all the diffference

Melee and shot are the answer for you, if you play Warzone try to use Advanced Sensors…
My old method was action sack and wait for pound town, they give you a plasma pistol and rifle so I could noob combo but that playlist is not available.
Play BTB and use it there since it spawns on a bunch of maps and you generally won’t have to worry about OP weapons like in Fiesta or WZ. I found it pretty easy to get the commendation done, but I also did it before it was nerfed. Still, just be sure to stop shooting it before it overheats and it shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
I guess I would suggest a plasma pistol overcharge and then using the brute plasma rifle to clean up. A more difficult way to do this might be to crouch walk, ambush with a quick melee, thrust away, and shoot. This second tactic should, in theory, work better than ever. Melee strips the shield and that is where the extra shot to kill was inserted.
Here’s what I mean:
-It now takes 5 shots instead of 4 to break shields
-bpr takes exactly 1 more shot to kill, so same number of shots after the shield is gone even post patch
-accuracy has been increased, and is especially noticable at range
I have also killed vehicles with it on several occasions, including a wasp and a wraith. It might be better against vehicles than most people assume, but that is just speculation.
I just keep one in my pocket when it’s available and wait to catch people off guard. If you use it as a primary, your probably going to have a bad game. If you chip away at it every now and then, it will be done before you know it

this is how I got it done ^
For the base variant, I typically fire until it’s about to overheat and starts doing damage to their health (but don’t let it overheat!), thrust to a side (which allows the gun to cooldown), readjust my aim, and then finish up with the last bit of damage.

My strategy is to use weak -Yoink- in conjunction. Auto Sentry + Pulse Grenade makes it take fewer hits.

Never thought of that honestly. I may give that a shot if I ever get back into Halo 4 again.
I used it in bursts. Also getting the first shot definitely helps out. Just keep plugging along, you’ll get all of them eventually
I had the same problem. What I ended up doing toward the end of the commendation was grab an overshield and a scale of soirapt late in a Warzone game and charge the enemy base. You usually get 2 or 3 kills doing that.
Only weapon I have left as well. It sucks. I just try to get one kill each time I spawn with one in Super Fiesta.
Currently trying to wrap this one up! Taking some serious patience haha
Use your main weapon, like a dmr or a magnum, and when you break his shields; shoot him with the brute rifle, that’s how I did it.
