Plasma Rifle in Halo 5 Semi Confirmed

First off, this is old information to some, but as I was looking over past videos from Halo 4, production of Halo 5, and MCC, I found this clip:

Proof of the Plasma Rifle

Take a look at the weapons on the Elites’ waists, those are without doubt the Plasma Rifles we all know and love. I’m sure this is old info to some, but do you suppose that the Plasma Rifles will work like the UNSC’s Assault Rifle? Like the SMG? Or something different all together?

Wow, good catch! I didn’t even notice those the first time. I guess I’m just so used to them… :stuck_out_tongue: I hope that means Plasma Rifles will be in Halo 5… maybe they’ll work like they did in the first game.

I did not notice that the first time watching this. That is pretty interesting. I suppose it makes sense considering the Storm Rifle is associated with Jul’s Faction. Not sure this really confirms it being in-game though.

If I had to assume how it would work, unfortunately probably like the SMG.

the problem is that Jul’s forced have been noted by lore to not be very up to date with technology, yet the Storm Rifle if you look at it’s description in Halo 4, conveys it’s supposed to be an updated version of the Plasma Rifle, so while it COULD be that it’s only in Jul’s forces, I’m betting it’s just one more variant of plasma weaponry used by the Covenant and it’s races.

You may also be correct about the Plasma Rifle potentially not in game. If you look at Locke’s battlerifle, you will notice that it’s design, and scope are not what Halo 5’s version is. So while we see that the Plasma Rifle has been updated to current generation Halo 5 graphics, it is accompanied by a design for a weapon we won’t be using in Halo 5 (supposedly).

I highly doubt it unless that cutscene also confirms the BR55 for Halo 5. :stuck_out_tongue:

Both in canon and in gameplay the plasma rifle seems to have been completely replaced by the Storm Rifle and it is even regarded as its successor. Having the Plasma Rifle wouldn’t make any sense.

Unless the Arbiter is using even more out of date equipment than Jul.

Like I said before, the BR in the cutscene isn’t the same as the one in Halo 5’s Beta.

On the other end of the argument for the Plasma Rifle being seen as obsolete, remember that the DMR was something removed from service use from Halo 1 to Halo 3. I forget the reasoning for why it was removed, it either being replaced by the BR, or by a more advanced version of the AR, but it WAS at one point a relic before they upgraded it sometime between Halo 3 and 4. In that regard, the old Plasma Rifle may have been replaced, like we have gone through variants of the AR.

Actually Jul uses newer tech a lot. New banshees, the new storm rifle, i’m pretty sure the shade turret he uses is a newer model too.

I thought Jul had ships that were more rag tag in nature, along with tech along the same lines before Halo 4.

I kinda want a lot of plasma weapons back, plasma repeater as the Arbiter’s faction equivalent to the AR (it was Thel’s army that attacked Reach), storm as Jul’s AR, Spiker as brutes. Plasma rifle as an SMG counter for both elite factions, brute plasma rifle for well, the brutes.

I’ve found (from personal experience)that in reach the repeater actually have a range advantage (I have no idea why) but in halo 4 the storm rifle didn’t. And I do prefer the repeater over storm.

That cutscene reuses weapon models from H2A, so the plasma rifle might not be in the game or, if it is in the game, might be different. Personally, I would like to see it back.

I wouldn’t bank on this if I were you. They used a number of Halo 2A’s assets in those cutscenes, and that could just be a random choice of weapon that has nothing to do with Halo 5.

That said, I can definitely see the PR returning as an alternative to the SMG.

I’m going to HOPE that 343 isn’t dumb enough to apply plasma rifles in current time of the Halo 5 and realize they now need to put the plasma rifle back in.

With all that said, I agree it will likely act like the SMG.

This. I’d also love to see the plasma repeater back for an AR counterpart, I loved that thing.

Why can’t we just return to the Plasma Rifle from CE? The plasma bolts (bursts? rounds? which is technically correct?) weren’t stupidly and dreadfully slow-moving, and you could actually get decent kills with it.

wat

Lemme rephrase that XD

I hope that 343 realizes that teasing them in the video demands they be in the game.

It would be kind of strange to go from the Plasma Repeater (Reach) to the Storm Rifle (H4) and then back to the Plasma Rifle. Although I have to admit H:CE PR is one of my favorite weapons in the game.

Good eye man! It would be nice to see it back.

I love that gun.

on a side note, Locke is tall.

Pretty sure Locke’s squad isn’t in their proper armor either. Though the red girl does seem to be, at least color/visor wise.

I wouldn’t put faith in it at all though. Its an H2A video, not an h5 trailer.
