Hey guys if you haven’t yet seen, this weeks community update is out. They tease at an actual new weapon, here is the given excerpt:
“The [REDACTED] is by far my favorite weapon in this next update. The Ultra Rare variant is crazy good at taking down Wasps, Banshees and Phaetons. It feels so badass hauling around a [REDACTED] on the battlefield
To me it sounds like the plasma launcher from Halo Reach. It homed in and i’m sure it’d do significant damage as an upgraded req. However i think it is too similar to the plasma caster to be viable for the sand box. Does anyone else have any guesses? Maybe it’s a never before seen weapon.
Is the reach plasma launcher land to air? It may be something else.
Crazy good most likely means that it has a lock-on ability so a plasma launcher could be possible. I was kind hoping for a Railgun that locks onto air targets.
I think it’ll be some kind of turret. It talks about “hauling” around the weapon, and from what I’ve seen the only weapons SPARTAN-IVs can’t sprint with would be the turrets. Since they describe it as adept at taking down Wasps, Banshees, and Phaetons, which are all airborne vehicles, it will likely have a homing ability.
It could also be some kind of rocket launcher variant, or even railgun. I think it has to be a heavy weapon as you wouldn’t describe carrying a battle rifle “hauling around a BR.” Still, it talks about an Ultra Rare variant of the new weapon, so it’s probably something never before seen. Either way I’m excited.

The plasma launcher had a homing ability much more effective than that of the plasma caster or plasma pistol in that it had red ridicule. Here is some gameplay I found off a quick search. I imagine a 2016 version of that would be similar to the hydra. An upgraded variant would have increased damage and if you did a full charge up then it would be catastrophic against air vehicles. The quote also doesn’t explicitly say that it is an anti air weapon, simply that it feels boss as and is good against air.

Could call. It certainly could be. The plasma launcher is large and could be described as a ‘haul’ as could a rocket launcher but it doesnt really affect your movement so I agree, it doesn’t really fit. The thing about turrets though, they are such a haul that you’re an easy target, you move so slow and have no evasion. I don’t see how that could be particularly effective against the maneuverability of an air vehicle.

That’s true. I had a weird thought about a Covenant-style Spartan Laser the other day. I’m wondering if it could be something like that. Perhaps a multiple burst per charge plasma focus beam? Ugh, I let my mind run. I do hope it’s something that allows you to kill vehicles easily without having such poor ammunition.

By the sound of things the update is still some weeks away, it’s gonna be painful. I just had a quick read and it looks like the plasma launcher found in firefight was in an alpha or beta state so I reckon they have definitely been working on it and I expect we’ll see it at some point. The post made reference to several new weapons so we can only hope.

There are only 2 rocket pod variations so adding another one wouldn’t be odd.

How would you vary it?
Bravo confirmed that it is not the Plasma Launcher.
We know the plasma launcher is coming. lol so why redact it. It is for sure something new or old. The only old weapons left is the concussion rifle, brute shot, spiker (pretty sure it aint it lol), Mauler (definitely not it lol, and did you know it is considered a pistol?), sticky detonator, grenade launcher, target locator, idk what else. Highly effect weapons that might have a good variants as anti-air is the sticky detonator (maybe lol), plasma launcher, target locator, grenade launcher, concussion rifle?, brute shot?

I hadn’t actually seen the WZFF stuff before, I only discovered it when I went looking for the Halo Reach gameplay. I don’t see how any of those others could be particularly effective against air vehicles except MAYBE the grenade launcher. It kind of needs lock on to be particularly effective unless its an insta kill like a laser.

lol Obviously it exists during rare moments. The sticky detonator could have an upgraded version, target locator is literally one of the strongest weapon ever and there could be a variant that fires a homing missle strong enough to take down a phaeton, but then again that is really stupid LOL.
"The [REDACTED] is by far my favorite weapon in this next update. The Ultra Rare variant is crazy good at taking down Wasps, Banshees and Phaetons. It feels so badass hauling around a [REDACTED] on the battlefield" When he said hauling, we know it is a big chunky weapon. So it narrows it down to brute shot and plasma launcher. Brute shot could have spike grenade abilties and fire so darn fast, but I doubt its that powerful lol. So it could be something new or the plasma launcher. Plasma launcher’s lock-on is good but its homing is terrible especially against a phaeton. What could be so darn powerful and fast to destroy a phaeton. Phaeton literally has a a phasing ability.
I doubt it’s the plasma launcher, it’s probably a brand new anti-air weapon. It is definitely welcomed by many people, since it will do wonders in Warzone Firefight. All those support banshees and phaeton bosses? Say good night!
I don’t have issues with air vehicles in regular warzone since I just spawn a Void’s Tear to steal them.

Good spotting, someone else said missile pod from halo 3 on there, I wonder if it’s different enough from the rocket turret…

The bosses in WZFF in the air are such a pain, I couldnt agree more.
I feel like it’s some sort of missile launcher.
