Yeah, we had another thread on this earlier. It would seem that the Plasma Launcher is in the game to some capacity. It shoots and acts like the Plasma Launcher from Reach, but it doesn’t have a first person model/animation.
Seeing as how Reach is a few games back, and Halo 5, and the engine has evolved so much since then (to the point where many parts were rebuilt from the ground up), I’m willing to bet that this is not an accident due to some leftover code, especially since Warzone Firefight is brand new. I would say that it’s an accidental (or maybe not?) sneak peak into the addition of the weapon in a future update.
It looks like it could be real. It doesn’t look like someone just placed a Reach plasma launcher into the image. Plus the color of it is different than the Reach one. It’s better looking and is more purple than the shade the other one had
Plus, when comparing that image to this one from Reach, it’s clear that it’s not just a straight port from Reach. Not only is the model more defined and smooth, the textures have been completely updated. The weapon is more of a dark purple rather than the blue-ish purple of Reach, and the red markings along the weapon are now just indents.

There’s a video of him playing, seeing it, picking it up (without first person animations) and firing it. It’s real.

…why would he get banned? It’s a glitch in the game, nothing more.

A friend of mine had this happen too. He was swapping dropped weapons and suddenly had this in his hands.
Maybe it is for a future update?
Well that’s cool. It’s clearly not a straight port from reach so maybe we will get it next month. I remember that it was originally going to be in halo 4 as well, but was cut.
That is too awesome! Love the Plasma Launcher in Reach! Always felt like the Plasma Caster was a terrible mix between the Launcher & Concussion Rifle.
