Planting the flag in CTF?

Okay, I keep seeing flag carriers get to our base and be unable to plant the flag. Last game, the player ran around the goal, obviously trying to plant it but wouldn’t drop the flag so someone else could try. Tried it myself in a previous game and no matter which button, trigger or bumper I pushed I couldn’t plant the flag in the goal. I could drop the flag anywhere, but setting it in the holder wasn’t happening. Tried waiting for a timer but nothing.

What are we doing wrong? It has to be something obvious that we’re missing.

Was your flag away/taken by the opposing team?

Was your flag at home base?

Did the other team have your flag? You can’t score on CTF unless on flag is “at home”.

Flag needs to be at home to cap it.

It is actually something obvious your missing.

This is a big issue in CTF with new players. I’ve had my team betray me because they clearly thought I wasn’t capping the flag on purpose…! :S

Their flag, in our carrier’s hands was at our base.

The answers here are rather vague, but are circling around a meaning:

In order to capture their flag, our flag must be at our home base. Is this what you’re saying?

If so, it’s new to me. I’ve played plenty of CTF in Halo 3 and 4 and I don’t remember our flag being home to be a requirement to score.

What you said is true of halo 5, “Flag must be at home to score”. That is the way CTF is. As far as I know that is the traditional way, but isn’t necessarily always the case.

Shouldn’t be that hard your teams flag must be at home or must be returned to score their flag. So you must see your teams flag in its holder and place their flag on top of it boom score. That’s it and the basic rule of capture the flag. You must be thinking of neutral flag where there is only 1 flag and you score when it is returned.

That may very well be the case. I remember avoiding CTF in Halo 3 because it was always an extended game of slayer with no one working the objective. Thanks for your help, everyone.

Yeah, your flag needs to be at base to score.

Never really liked ctf, bit of a dated gametype imo.

This is definitely something new to halo 5 which is -Yoinking!- -Yoink-!

You need the flag to be at the base
