Plans for an optimization update? Its nearly 90GB!

This is something that has been talked about every once and awhile, but since I believe that its important and since 343 has stated that they are working on more updates, will Halo 5 every get an update to scale down its GB size?

Halo 5, has of now is 87.4GB, That is nearly 90GB in size, about the size of two Destiny’s (36GB) put together and like four Titanfall’s (20GB). While it could be said that the REQ system and all of the REQs are a key player in this increased size, I believe not to be the case at all, does anyone remember there being a ready to install update for “Hog Wild”? I may be wrong, But I do not remember there being one. I believe that the REQs are all based out of the cloud, something that should be helping keep the size down ironically. The cloud also helps with the large AI count in Warzone as well.

The only real part that could fit the bill of taking tons of space is forge, being much larger and more complex then past versions, but even then, forge can only take up so much space.

Now, here is where the questioning comes in, if its not the REQs, at least I assume its not them, then what is causing this game to be so large in comparison to many others? again, the second largest game minus MCC, another Halo, Destiny, is only 36GB, half of what Halo 5 is, and one could argue that Destiny has more meat in it, more weapons, armor, it has shaders, ships, sparrows, relics, other customization’s like emotes along with much larger play spaces, granted its multiplayer is much smaller then Halo 5’s, but the compensation is still there due to the large PvE. So why is Halo 5 so large? What is the reasoning? is it due to how the engine was made? textures? sound files? lighting?

I ask out of the worry for the future of Halo games, with more updates coming, Halo 5 will only get bigger an bigger, should be expect newer Halos to take up this much space? save 100GB for the next halo? Why should someone have to go out and buy a hard drive because one game is sucking up almost quarter of the space you have?

So I ask, hoping 343 may see this, maybe even respond… Will we ever get an optimization update? if not, could we know why this game is so large?

I agree completely. But i feel as if this is an issue that cant exactly be fixed. I mean we don’t exactly know why it takes so much space to begin with, it could be a hardware issue or a problem with the game engine itself.

You forget Forge is also cloud-based. That’s why it is unusable offline.

There is no way the game is 90 gigs of just programming, it has to be reqs. If the req’s were cloud you’d be downloading gigs every game, increasing your bandwidth, storing them on your harddrive, and then deleting them. Your data usage per month would be noticibly higher playing h5 than any other game, and having to redownload assets every game is the opposite of ‘optimization’.

ok, but do you remember there being an update for Hog Wild? The update that had REQs and nothing else? Also, if REQs aren’t their own thing, then why do people get “Retrieving Data” at times even though the game itself is fine, it runs off its own server. maybe the textures and sound of the REQs, but not the REQ itself.

And just in general, I admit, I really don’t know what is making Halo 5 so big, but compared to other games, its a problem.

About the reqs on the cloud, let me introduce you to me good old freind…

And yet, the Hog Wild content drop didn’t require you to download an update for Halo 5; the REQs simply showed up after a while. Clearly, the REQs are a minor part of the size of this game.

The whole req system is making Halo 5 big that includes armors and all that other stuff too.

Not to ignore everything else in the post, I think you have legit questions, but is Destiny really the second largest game besides MCC? That just seems a little small at 36GB … What is GTA 5? Anyone know?

How much armour is there? Like over 400 individual pieces?

230 some armors I think that means 230 some helmets then you got like 80 visors what 30 assassinations nearly 300 emblems. That is quite a bit of stuff.

Gears UE is around 44 Gigs.

And none of the REQs themselves required you to download an update for Halo 5, only maps and gametypes.

It’s just bad compression, is what I believe.

COD BO3 is at 60 GB with its DLCs so far. Doom is at 55 GB with its first DLC. Gears of War 4 is going to be around 60-80 GB.

I was going to say… I know I have installed some pretty damn large games on my Xbox, Gears being one of them. It’s been awhile since I had GTA on there and I’m pretty sure that was at least 50.

No all that stuff is downloaded onto your system when it says retrieving data it is just retrieving data that you own them and you should be given access to them.
EDIT: little side note if you had to download your reqs each game there is no way I could play Halo 5 with my struggle net. I find it hard to play BF 4 on 30 hz servers.

Just fix the server/connectivity issues… The game was so crispy at launch. Now it’s nearly like playing against a team of standbyers on H2 in some cases… and people getting dropped from games all the time.

It sucks. The game’s not even fun when you can’t even track the enemy and everyone’s rubber banding around all the time.

343 HAS to know about it… Just fix it! And don’t wait!

I mean from the games I have installed on my xbox, sorry, should have been more clear when I said that.

I am kind of puzzled at how large the size is. I don’t think play space and item content (amount of weapons/REQs) matter THAT much, as you have games like Oblivion that have huge maps and thousands of weapon variations that are only around 8GB. Maybe it’s the graphics/textures and being able to maintain 60fps at long distances? I have no idea if that even affects the size.
