I’m planning to get an Xbox and get this game too, but I have a question. How does the ranking system work? I’ve played little bits of the game, but I never really understood the ranking system.
Don’t call me an -Yoink!- idiot like the last guy I asked, please.
This article Halo: Reach multiplayer ranks - Halopedia, the Halo wiki may prove to be helpful; it will explain better than I can!
Hope it helps
Short version:
Reach is an XP progression based system. It carries with you in all modes (Campaign/MP/Firefight). There are NO competitive rankings (skill based).
Think ranks in Call of Duty and Battlefield and you’re basically there.
Similar to Halo 4’s, without the ‘Specializations’. You need WAY more XP for max rank in Halo: Reach though. It’s pretty crazy! I have 40k kills in Matchmaking, 135k kills in Firefight, 89% Commendations, and over 1300 Challenges completed. Very nearly Inheritor now.
PS: What’s -Yoink!- about asking a question like this? xD

Who knows? That last guy was pretty rude otherwise too, so maybe that’s it. Hit me up with a friend request on Xbox Live. This account is kinda new.
The Cr system is a simple progression system where you have to grind for Cr to rank up. Meanwhile, you can buy pieces of armor for your Spartan using the obtained Cr as currency. Wasting Cr don’t affect progression. The more ranks you get to, the more pieces you will unlock. My Mark VI helmet was only unlocked when I reached Brigadier, but all armor effects and Firefight voices are there for the beginning. As you rank up, the pieces will be unveiled. It wasn’t until later that the game showed me that you could buy a Mark VI helmet.
As for how you get Crs, you get them simply by playing. However, you more in Matchmaking. The better you are, the more Cr you’ll earn.
Now I have to address the elephant in the room if you don’t mind. When you complete a match, you can notice a “Performance Bonus” adding up to your total Crs earned. That bonus is based on how long your game lasted. The longer you’re there, the more Crs. Knowing this, I’m warning you to stay away from Grifball. It’s simply not fun because either you cooperate or you get ready to get a negative K/D ratio and endless death for more than 20 minutes. And I encourage you to not practice such a scummy exploit, because you’re getting enjoyment out of other people’s suffering. In other words, you become the Devil and the game becomes Hell.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Remember Reach Spartan.
