So there is something really strange going on with how rankings work in FFA.
I first played FFA a couple of days ago, I was already Plat 3 in Team Arena and Diamond in Breakout (which was also odd, but more about that later). The first game in FFA I played I dominated, I easily came in first. The next game was a better match up and I did pretty poorly and came in 6th place. I decided after that that I really didn’t like this playlist and so I would use it to try to get commendations. In order to do so I would purposely do poorly so the game would match me lower so it would be easier to get these.
Here is where the weirdness came in, no matter how many of my placement games that I came last in, I was still facing the same level of opponents. The first few games I had thought it was matching me a lot lower because the players started to get really bad, but after the 3rd or 4th I started checking the post game lobby, and noticed everyone was still Onyx!
Here are the results of my 10 placement matches:

As you can see, I only won the first game I played. Every other game, I came in last place if possible (some games had leavers and some didn’t even start with all 8).
AND YET I GOT PLACED IN ONYX.
What the hell? Does this mean the “placement” matches don’t actually matter? I literally won 1 match and got Onyx, how is this possible?

FFA and SWAT placements are “broken”. You can literally get ranked in Onyx as long as you play the gamemode for all 10 placement games because of the amount of quitters. You quit once you are automatically Diamond. Quit twice you are Platinum.
343, I think it is time you go back to a 1-50 ranking system. Onyx is becoming meaningless because ‘everyone’ is getting ranked Onyx.
I don’t know about this game, but older Halos used to consider any FFA placement in the top half of players as a win. Or possibly the game is using k/d as a placement criteria since strict win/loss has less meaning in FFA. Your kill/deaths look pretty solid, whatever it is that you may have been trying to do.
I don’t see the point of having a ranking system when it doesn’t evenly match players. When I see a team of Champions getting matched up against a team of Silver/Gold I honestly don’t even want to play in Arena. It isn’t a skill based ranking. Your rank doesn’t seem to matter at all in regards to who you get matched against.
Currently Onyx is platinum. Everyone gets placed there. Onyx only means something if you have 1900 points or more to indicate you actually deserve the rank and win regularly. Onyx 1500 is basically platinum who didn’t quit during placements.
They NEED to make it impossible to get Onyx from placements. Highest possible being Diamond 1 and that’s from a 80%+ win rate in placements.
