So, I just watched some Pitfall gameplay from ComicCon. NakedEli pointed out that the yellow ledges framing green hallway are no longer there (meaning you cannot jump up on them), and I’m pretty sure they also removed the top rooms at each base. I was actually kind of excited for the map, but now not as much. Thoughts?
I’m glad those top rooms were removed. They were a pain in the yoink in H3 and Jetpacks would have made it worse. As for the yellow edges its not a big loss.
Rooms up top are definitely gone, but that’s only sad because of Infection. It was an annoyance when people wound up heading up there in Team Doubles and just sat there for the whole game in Halo 3. Wouldn’t have been so bad if there was an actual way to get up there, but there wasn’t.
Now, as the person above me said, jetpacks would pretty much eliminate their purpose anyway.
I’m not so in-the-know about Halo 3 maps anymore though, it’s been quite some time. Refresh my memory on what “green hallway” is, and what ledges you mean?
If that’s true about the ledges that is REALLY stupid.
The green hallway right in the middle of the map where Invis was. There were 2 yellow ledges on each side that you could jump up on top of to, quite literally, get the drop on someone. As for jetpack users, the rooms could’ve easily been blocked off for Infinity or other Slayer settings.
It just annoys me because instead of choosing to do that, they just completely took them out. Removing two rooms from a map feels like a loss to me.
I only have one problem with pitfall. The opening in the SWORD room.
It’s like the makers didn’t even play the original pit, they placed in mlg crates and passed it as competitive friendly.
> I only have one problem with pitfall. The opening in the SWORD room.
Both openings near the sword room are blockable in Forge as stated by 343, which is probably how they will be in a playlist like Legendary Slayer.
> It’s like the makers didn’t even play the original pit, they placed in mlg crates and passed it as competitive friendly.
It’s almost laughable if it wasn’t so sad. 343 is capable of making amazing content, but cannot get an exact remake down. Surely they expected people who played Halo 3 to miss those rooms and ledges. Casual players weren’t the only people who used those ledges if I recall correctly.
I’m starting to wonder if that mlg jump ledge (the one near the sword room bridge) is even there anymore. I understand taking some artistic freedom with the looks of the map, but I can’t understand taking that kind of freedom with the feel of the map.
Not looking forward to a very mediocre at best map being brought back cannot wait for the limited standoffs and people hiding in sword with auto aim snipe and sprinting away.
Funny how they couldn’t even make the map right aswell but it’s 343 they gave us NBNS but then gave us Halo 4…
Not sure why they would remove the ledges, they added another dimension to The Pit. Not such a big loss but a loss nonetheless.
I don’t really see the problem with removing either of those features. The map, at its core, is still The Pit. The only concern I have is whether or not it will play well in Halo 4, which we will see in less than a month.
A couple of ledges? 2 rooms that messed with gameplay anyway?
C’mon guys, seriously. Those aren’t reasons to be acting like 343 just evicted your house themselves.
The ledges can just be forged back in. That’s not really a big deal.
Your title is misleading. There are no actual “problems” with Pitfall. They are merely your gripes. The issues you say are present are intentional building decisions. Thus, they are not a problem.
The two rooms where blocked anyway in Halo 3 Pitfall after to many people where camping over there, so that is no lost.
And they made the openings in the sword room to avoid campers, and I think thats good. The Overshield Hallway wasnt very Usefull before.
I think it looks great.

I hope they have yellow panels in forge so we don’t have to merge creates or something to recreate the classic design. Which would look out of place. Not sure why they would remove them, they were a handy little tool to use for vertical strafing.

Did you really just waste your time with a post because I used a slightly inaccurate word? Really?

You completely missed the point I made in responding to others. I already stated that even if there was unfair gameplay in matchmaking, they could easily block off the rooms like they did in Halo 3. They didn’t have to remove them from the map completely, including for custom games options. I also think it looks great.

Assuming that you’re addressing me at all, if you think I’m feeling like 343 just “evicted my house” (not sure how one evicts a house) then clearly you didn’t read my original post. Besides, all these forums are are people stating their overreactions to perceived flaws in Halo 4, so even if I was freaking out over this, am I really doing anything out of the ordinary?
