Ping System

Do yall think a ping system should be implemented into multiplayer.

I know some people may be against this since it invites players not to use mics. However, sometimes people choose not to use mics due to possibly having children or other background noises they dont want to bother people with.

Ive always wanted a ping system because it is very frustrating when you engage multiple enemies and there is no way of letting your teammates know unless you have a mic.

Now obviously there would have to be a range restriction so you dont have players with assault rifles pinging enemies across the map etc

In BTB I wouldn’t be opposed to it. There’s loads of vehicles and power weapons, or snipers hiding that people can’t see that a ping would help with.

For Arena I’d rather an objective based quick chat system or something. Some way to quickly tell my team that a baddy is near the flag when it’s under attack.

I think what the best system will be a mix between pings and voice chat.
I don’t know if you played Team Fortress or Enemy territory quake wars but on those games you have a lot of voice lines to say almost anything related with the game.

There are quotes like

  • Follow me - Defend here - enemy ahead - stealth enemy (In tf2 means spy) - Turret ahead - Yes/No - HelpIn halo you can use something like that. Pinging and saying, for example, “Enemy shotgun ahead”, “Sniper” , “I’m taking the tank”, “You need a ride?” (When you have a vehicle with passenger seat), “I need a gunner” (When you are driving a vehicle without gunner, for example, a tank, warthog or falcon).

i like ping, it lets strangers with no mic instantly play better as a team

I think this would be an awesome idea for coop campaign as well depending on how far players can be from one another.

FYI, Halo 5 has a simple version of a ping. Up on d-pad. It alerts everyone on your team of your location.

I would like it and I love classic. It would be really nice for people who dont know callouts and also to ping power weapons if someone doesn’t know where it spawns.

I for one am all for it

Hope they will carry it over from Halo 5. Its an underrated/underutilized feature in H5 MP honestly.

Please no. This isn’t Overwatch…

I think it would be a great idea to implement something. I do see problems with it though in something like BTB where you have 7 other people pinging. Information overload. 4v4 it could be useful for those who never seem to turn on there mic. And if there is a BR mode its pretty much a given to have it.

I would love to have a system like that in halo but it would really need to be its own thing & limited as I can imagine people would spam it too much as I can see one guy or few all pinging the enemy tank waiting for someone to take it out just imagine how annoying that would be.

I like the ping, with a limit of some sort, don’t want spam. I hope they do something robust, because i don’t like playing with no-mic teammates, and something is better than nothing.

Alternatively COD MW has an auto-voiceline system where your character will just say out loud (to your team) when they see an enemy, are reloading, etc. I’m sure other games have stuff like this too. I could see Halo adopting something like this, having your spartan saying “enemy spotted <callout>” and “target shields down” then “lost visual” or something. This could supplement the ping (and voice chat) systems.

Also, i think CS:GO auto-updates the minimap based on what you and your teammates see. It places markers for enemies, and question marks for lost visuals, and more. I don’t know how this could be adopted for Halo, but if nothing else, it proves that a smart targeting/pinging system is possible.

This is in Halo 5. It’s okay, but honestly it kinda fades into the background. I kinda prefer just navigating maps using audio queues from weapons and lifts over voice lines

Yeah, i don’t typically pay too much attention to it either, but it’s fine to add i think. If it’s good enough, i’d appreciate it.

Maybe they will allow us to adjust different sound systems individually (master, music, gameplay, chat, etc) so players can decide if it’s worth it for them. Some games just have it too quiet that i don’t hear the passive callouts. Maybe it can even be disabled for certain/custom gamemodes.

Then, i think ping can focus on thing like “hold here”, “group up”, “attack”, etc. which goes beyond what the passive callout system could do.
