Actually a great add. Especially for casual players.
I’m not really worried about it. But am curious to see how it will work. I don’t really want a persistent tracking ping a la battlefield. A very basic ping system will work fine imo. You throw up a pointer and it just tells you want you pinged and that’s it.
As long as it’s not too informative, I think it could be a good took for the game. One that encourages more teamwork and will be useful even to highly skilled players for making callouts.

I do love me a pinging system in games, especially if they are done well. Plus it makes sense from a lore standpoint that Spartans could highlight a certain spot in their vision and other spartans can see that spot if they are linked together through the combat network or something. The persistent tracking of the Battlefield ping was a bit too much although I think in the latest game they took that out. This will be really helpful for casual players who may not know all the callouts of the map or even players playing solo with randoms.
It’ll help players in solo queues/players with disabilities. Can’t think of any cons to this. Anyone? Seems fair to me.
I’m all for it as long as it’s not too invasive. Pinging a weapon/equipment/vehicle location would be a good tool. As for enemy location, as long as there is still some vagueness to it then it should be fine. By vagueness I mean that you’d be able to ping an emeny, which gives the enemies general location, not a percise location.
What would be a problem is if you can ping an enemy player, and then that specific enemy player is marked for all teammates to see as they move around the map. Getting pinpointed with a marker or a red outline for the entire enemy team to see would be a big problem imo.

I agree with all of this! Well said! Too much info is bad. Halo should be more about wondering and not knowing.
I like pinging in other games where there are a myriad of unique things you might want to point out or convey to teammates, but I question the implementation into Halo, a game that shouldn’t need it. I am of the opinion that similar to Call of Duty, your characters should have call outs that are automatic rather than rely on someone to ping an enemy while firing, why not have the call out automatically?

Perfect. I think this system will be very helpful and useful, just like the ping system in Halo 5
Apex has a very good context sensitive ping system. I imagine they want to/will implement something like that.
I’m pretty indifferent to the idea of a ping system. We really just have to see how it behaves.
Like if I can constantly ping things like you used to be able to in Rainbow Six Siege, then it’s gonna end up being pretty strong. If you can only ping every few seconds, then it’s different. Also how is this going to work in BTB? Are you telling me twelve players could potentially spam pings throughout a match? That could get out of hand really quickly. This all really boils down to a few key aspects of the ping.
- Duration of the ping in the HUD - How often we can ping - Distance from the pinging player until I can no longer see their pings. I’m not sure it’s too important that I see Pings from my teammate on the other side of Blood Gulch, for example. Having a range cutoff would help alleviate spam issues. Maybe fireteam members’ pings have unlimited range, because those are likely the highest priority to me.If 343 can reign these things in, I’m all for a ping system. However, if we can mark weapon spawns, do we really need to have weapon spawn pads marked globally? I’m still not entirely convinced on them. I’ve always disliked how they had a clear effect on gameplay. As soon as the weapon pad timer began, people immediately begin moving toward them around the map. Maybe if the preemptive timer was removed and the pad only marked as soon as the weapon spawned, it’d feel a little more in line with how Halo classically plays. A player who memorizes spawn timers still has the upper hand, even though everyone knows their location, and that they just picked up the rockets lol.
Interesting, also not specified which playlists this will feature in. It could be in all or it could be in FF or other cooperative modes.
But seriously. I like squatting to indicate appreciation, shooting them and then shooting the object I want them to look at, and wagging my gun around for nods or a head shake of disapproval.
This ping system is just MORE evidence to me that we’re going to eventually see a BR mode in Infinite. I know plenty of you will disagree, but this is at least the third game GUI feature I can think of that had been mostly seen in BR games in recent years.
Not at launch…but I bet we get a next-gen-only BR mode in 2022 with a higher player count than 24.
this is a handy tool, specially with how little people use their mics even though they’re wearing the headset lol.

Yeah. Honestly when I first read that earlier on Reddit I wasn’t really sold on it. But the more I thought about it I couldn’t really find anything inherently bad with a ping system in halo. I don’t think it really takes away from the game. Even when it comes to map knowledge pinging weapons and gear for teammates is honestly a less intrusive way to teach people than having weapons always pointed out like in halo 5. And even if it helps new players (something opponents of weapon markers dislike), it also helps veterans to make better callouts.
I actua5 think this is a new addition I can get behind the more I think about it.
A ping system seems kinda neat. I’m not gonna use it (like, ever
), but it’s pretty cool regardless.
That’s cool.
It’ll be nice as a warthog driver
I like this. It will hopefully make solo-queuing more bearable.
Also, I agree with previous comments that this does seem to point towards getting a BR mode at some point. It’s a very battle royale-like feature and pinging on small 4v4 arena maps seems not useful enough to implement at all.
I’m a bit split on this.
On one hand it’s a good tool to help with comms especially in MP lobbies where people are usually in party chats.
On the other I hope it’s not “spammy”. I really dont want the constant visual noise of pings in BTB lobbies (imagine 12 pings active at the same time) as well as handing trolls another tool to annoy people.
Also I really don’t want pings to track enemies, but I doubt they will since thats one of those new armour pick-up thingies.
