Interesting thought about the chief’s and the pilot’s relationship dynamic. The pilot is obviously a family man with a wife and child. Chief has a “family” but not like the pilot’s. I think it will be interesting if they explore these different dynamics in the game.
For sure, it’ll be interesting to see how they interact. Hope we can see them have some real good conversations.
I think Its shown for chief by the banter him and blue team share.
He likely has met with quite an amount of family people during his missions so i do hope it wont be too in-depth part of the interactions between the 2 but surely it could be there to some degree.
I just hope brohammer is written in a way that’s serviceable cause character writing has taken a hit in 4/5. And I hope that Blue team, osiris, majestic, infinity crew are all still present and given more interesting and or emotive dialogue because if they are all suddenly absent again with only the new guy as the human element I’ll be pretty detached from the narrative experience as a whole.

I understand what you mean, but at the same time this is a soft reboot. We should consider it to be a fresh start and not the next instalment of the reclaimer saga.

We keep saying it’s a soft reboot but every official statement is that its a continuation of the current story and a spiritual successor to CE so I as of this point in time view it as the next installment in the reclaimed saga with a new direction. So with it being a direct sequel to H5G and the ending we got in that game I really feel blue team are the best choice for coop playable characters and brohammer will be mostly comms chatter like his name sake because it would be very CE to have a pilot provide overwatch transport and intelligence. I could be wrong and perhaps pilot will have a major role. I just want them to learn from the lacking writing of 4 and 5 and execute their existing characters in way that’s more realistic and endearing than they have been. Also using blue team to reference extended fiction is a great way to reward fans of the books with Easter eggs while also fleshing out the world and history for more casual gamers that just played so. E mainline titles.

That part in bold? Yeah. You just described a soft reboot ma mate! XD
It doesn’t mean the story isn’t continuing, it means however that the given planed route has changed and story-lines got remodeled to be some sort of new beginning. It basically what DC Rebirth did after “The New 52” -> rebirth was DC’s soft-reboot, but at the same time it is the continuation of the N52 stories. But that also means things will get cut or “retconed” for the sake of the new direction. Blue team might be the very first victims of those changes - especially because it’s quite easy to write them off due a side mission f.e. Also 343i wants to recapture the feeling of the OG series, as such there is no place for too many Spartans.

The official statement is that it’s a “spiritual reboot”. Interpret that as you wish.

Ya I know what a soft reboot is but it’s not a term with a consistent definition thus I chose to provide my understanding of it. Why can’t blue team be part of capturing the classic feel? Linda is in CE and for those of us who read the fall before playing CE blue team are as much a part of halo as John. Sure we can’t have 100 Spartans but reach proves you can feel like the baddest dude in the galaxy even alongside a bonafied spartan 2. The reboot seems to apply to the feel of the franchise rather than the more tangible aspects such as plot, characters, ect.

The classic feel involves Chief being a one-man-army against an overwhelming force imo. Blue Team might get sidelined for that reason alone. Having 4 Spartans (or 8) fighting together could lessen the impact of having one man fight an entire army.
You provide a solid example with Reach though. Which is why I’m still not sure if Blue Team will be in Infinite in some capacity. They might be, but only time will tell.
One consideration for the pilot/chief dynamic is what is the tone of the story. I never caught it before but one idea for Halo 4 they were trying to convey with the story was ‘Is Chief more than a soldier/machine’ does he still have a piece of humanity left in him. The Promethean’s where an allusion to that - the consciousness of a person forced into a mechanical fighting machine with no will or personal agency anymore truly removal of someone’s humanity and made into nothing more than a machine.
So for infinite what is the tone they are going for? My thought is reunions. Obviously, we know very little but I picture that at the end of campaign we have a scene where the Pilot is reunited with his family and chief watches as he hugs his wife and child. It would be interesting to see how Chief would respond to a moment like that. On the note of reunions, if our goal is to reconstruct and ‘rescue’ Cortana in some form. Chief reuniting with his old and dear friend after seeing her die only for her to come back as a megalomaniac bent on galactic conquest. Kind of a kick in the rear-end but now the possibility is there for him to get his real friend back.
Just some further thoughts.
