Pickup the phone and call our boy Marty O'Donnell

Please. You know Halo fans would love it. Let him join forces with our boy Joe Staten once again.

Sheer incompetence will drive him away. I’m 100% sure he has no interest in working with 343 and it would be smarter for him to take his talent elsewhere.

And how will that help anything?

This is a legit question knowing Infinite is set in stone that not even Staten is going to be able to help this mess. Some of you are not paying attention to what is actually taking place. No one has a say in what direction this game heads other then 343 higher-up/Microsoft.

Correct me if I’m wrong but back when Marty was working with Bungie he was on the board, right? Without that pull, he nor anyone that isn’t on the board would be just another employee told what to do, and that is not how Marty will work.

Yeah don’t think he wants this name attached to this.

I love Marty, but the soundtrack this time around is just fine without him. I’d much rather he get the creative freedom to try crazy new things than be shackled down by Microsoft.

Just remember, the Halo 3 reveal trailer almost went with a generic rock song over Finish The Fight and Marty had to fight the suits at the top to let him put Finish The Fight in that trailer.

Actually, he’s directly said himself that he’s happy to work on Halo again - but 343i just don’t want him; which is appalling. I guess Marty would probably cut through the BS and speak his mind, which appallingly they probably don’t want.

Would love it if Jaime Griesemer returned too. I’m looking forward to their upcoming game ā€˜Six Days in Fallujah’.

I have a lot of faith in Joe. I hope the people like Bonnie just go away and let him handle their mess.

The soundtracks in the old games are far more than just fine though and let’s not forget that much of it is essentially remixes of Marty’s and Michael Salvatori’s work.

Yes, I’m aware of the Halo 3 announcement trailer music debacle, guess they never learn.

Which is ideal in a post Bungie Halo world, not the generic Sci-Fi score we got with Halo 4/5.

I’ll always go for the original where I can, but if the music is effectively spiritually successive that’s the next best thing. Halo Infinite’s soundtrack lacks a bit of the soul that Marty brought to the mix, which is expected, but it’s a solid composition nonetheless.

That being said, isn’t Marty on some sort of contractual ā€˜ban’ of sorts from working in the game industry after the Music of the Spheres debacle?

I thought that everyone knew that he’s apparently insufferable to work with.

That would probably be why they don’t want him. They don’t want someone controversial right now, especially when Halo Infinite is already in hot water.

Look he’s a great composer but he’s also insufferable to deal with.

Given the context of when phrases like this were said, it’s mainly just bantering digs and riffs between the members of the team.

I think a lot of the controversy was centered around Marty (and by extension a good majority of legacy Bungie staff) and his(their) interactions with Activision staff. A lot of similar stuff was stated about the IW staff when their debacle with Activision kicked off after MW3 leading to the expulsion of a good chunk of legacy IW staff, but as you see with Respawn and the lack of controversy surrounding them a lot of it seemed to be just gossip (or worse yet gaming media just stoking the flames).

Might even be that they do want him, but legally cannot work with him.

Marty is insufferable to work with? Based on what?

Uh, years of reports.

From? Provide even one example lol. I bet you can’t come up with anything other than some nonsense statement from Bungie/Activision saying how he doesn’t gell with their horrendous new direction.

His horrendous behavior back when he tried to start an internet war between Destiny twitter users and Redditors then was promptly called out (on both sides) on his literal ā€œDo you know who I am?ā€ moment of entitlement really showed his true colors.

he might be hard to deal with but he made some damn legendary music. It’s a pipe dream for him to come back, and unfortunately halo will never be the same without him.

I hope that if halo ever gets made into a blockbuster movie that microsoft would set aside their differences with him and have him score it. The halo tv show was complete crap, but it would have been a little less insufferable with Marty and Salvatori’s themes in the mix, that’s for sure

I think one thing people always forget is he was bungie’s audio director - so he wasn’t just responsible for halo’s great themes. He was in charge of all the iconic gun sounds/effects/vehicle sounds/covenant vocals that are mostly still used to this day

Can you provide the actual quotes? What do you mean he tried starting a Twitter war?

Marty is a big part of Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST, Halo Reach like literally part of the essence of Halo…but he apparently had an argument with some people on the internet one time(part of the reason I need the actual quotes is to see what their behaviour was) and said ā€œDon’t you know who I am?ā€ Like…okay? So what? People are so soft nowadays my gawd.

Just to be clear, Marty is a creative hero of mine but I’m nobody’s sycophant. If he or anyone else I admire were to do something bad I won’t be happy about that. But like life is short and the reasoning behind one of the integral creators of Halo not being involved sounds very trivial.

Judging by your profile pic I’m guessing you’re like 20? Well, I’m 31 and have been with the series since the beginning in 2001, so I just can’t really accept after all this time ā€œSorry, no Marty now, he was mean in a trivial argument on Twitter.ā€

Yes, that’s very true. And he also directed the voice actors with Joe and influenced other things like story.
