After reading there will be a day 1 update for H5, I am now wondering what copy I should purchase. A physical based purchase puts me at a disadvantage, because I need to download the update. I have mediocre internet at best and waiting to download may take hours. However, If I go digital, I can preload the update and be ready at midnight release. Just looking for thoughts from the community.
Digital for sure. No line to wait in and I’ll be playing at 12.
Depends if you want special collectibles or not.
Over always gotten the physical copy, but this year I’ll be getting the console and thus, go digital. The digital copy seems better as it’ll be ready to go at midnight, plus there will most likely be a day one patch and that’ll take a while to download. I’d say digital is better, but if you want a physical disc you can now trade the code for a physical disc or get one of the editions that comes with a disc instead.
physical
I’ve become a “fan” of digital since getting the X1. Whilst it was nice to have the physical discs and cases sitting next to the Xbox, the convenience of digital more than
compensates for not having a physical disc. Currently I think it highly unlikely that I’ll go back to physical copies of games.
I’d suggest that you go for the digital version, it’ll download soon (my pre-order has changed size from 132.1Mb to 46.2Gb, I think it is essentially “reserving” space as the drive usage hasn’t changed). This would be a good choice for you with bad/slow internet access.
With a physical copy, you’ll not be able to install it until you have picked up the game and it will then immediately download any Day 1 patches. There’s a possibility that any Day 1 patch on digital will download before 27th October.

Yes, exactly the same
Yeah, I am cool with digital for games I plan to drop many hours into. Although I enjoy the atmosphere of the midnight release events, I’d rather be ready to go when it drops. Thanks for all the feedback. I will convert my gamestop preorder for halo to Fallout 4.
Digital for me. No having to freeze my butt off in line and not having to worry about getting the game scratched. I can just sit at home, all warm and cozy, as it downloads.

I absolutely love that the Legendary Collectors Edition is digital. I can pick it up on the 20th and have the game preloaded for when its released at mid-night.
This alone is a huge plus. No waiting in line till mid-night, getting home at 12:30 and then waiting another 1 1/2 to 2 hours to play. Buddy and me made that mistake for the MCC. We didn’t play till around 3:30 that night. Totally ruined our plans.
Not this time though. My advice is to go digital.
I get all physical copies of the games I want to purchase. It will not be fun waiting to get the game then installing/updating… but at least it will have a resale value if the game were to ever flop (which I doubt will ever happen with Halo).

Completely agree. I used to be huge into owning the physical game media. But now that both physical and digital have to install to your system, and being the same size, what’s the point in getting digital anymore?
Unless you like seeing the game case. Or for some collectables. But like you said its so much easier to switch between the games you play most when you go digital.
Physical, I like having something in my Hands, to look at (also i like the smell of new things (yeah I’m weird)). Digital is…boring.
physical
I go digital for almost every game now, its just more convenient to download ahead of time and play right when its out. Also in my time zone things usually release on live at 11pm instead of midnight so that’s a nice bonus.
I have physical copies of all the Halo games including MCC. But I have bought Halo 5 digitally. #DigitalistheFuture

Easily digital.
Always old-skool physical for me unless the publisher has released a game as digital only.
I have a question, my download speed is 20 mbps, how long do you estimate it will take to download the day one update? I’m not completely sober at the minute so it’s hard to work that one out.
As Olivia Newton John used to say, ‘lets get Physical…’
I am sure out of the 60gb required space, 25 gb is on disk and the other 35 gb is a day one patch
