It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here and this topic might have already been discussed, but I’ve watched like 5 different E3 interviews where Phil Spencer mentioned they’re working on something for Halo 5 and older games.
When they announced the 4K updates in the Xbox conference, he stated all the games that will receive a “free” 4K update. In that list of games Halo 5 wasn’t mentioned. In later interviews he always mentioned in each interview that he visited 343 two weeks prior and we’re working on something special for 4K.
Might thought is 343 is working on a paid DLC update for Halo 5 that will include the 4K Xbox X update. It will have new maps, weapons, armor, etc… to show off in glorious 4K. This DLC will buy time for for the release of Halo 6.
As far as the older games, maybe Halo Reach? Only game that hasn’t been refreshed since launch.
What are your thoughts?
I hope it’s not a paid update. Microsoft seems adamant on making these updates free for first party titles. Do PC players pay for 4K textures on PC titles? I feel the norm is generally free, or you add the textures yourself.
I doubt anyone is going to touch up reach. It’s a seven year old game now, and it looks like we are finished with remakes.
I would not get my hopes up until official word has been given. All we know is that at least one more update will come someday before they drop all support for it.
Whatever it is, it will be free, not paid. All Halo 5 content that effects game play (excluding customization) has been free. To further my point, Gears of War 4, Microsoft’s biggest franchise besides Halo, it’s also doing a free content program plan.
Yes Halo Wars 2 is charging for content, but I believe there is also free content being offered.
110 Gb game, here we come

There is the castle war update that just went live. There was also mention of a future iteration of a classic play playlist, so you have that to look forward to. Enjoy!
The next DLC drop for H5 will be free I would assume. It will have to happen before Xbox X launch you would think.
They kind of have to make the updates free at this point. You don’t just do free updates for a whole two years and then pull a 180 asking for change, not gonna happen lol. You’ll just piss people off doing that, and the games playerbase isn’t near as big anymore, I’m sure many would love to fork up 20$+ to come back to a two year old game /s.
