Wow, this game has had so many design changes and glow-ups from the E3 demo in 2020, besides one thing. The Phantom, it still sports that all-too-clean silver look. With the lego-y chunky armor bricks that look like they were created in Halo 5 Forge. And it also sports a not-so-new Halo 5 plasma turret in purple covenant form. I do like the design that they are aiming for, but it needs to reflect more upon the design that is already there, in Halo Wars 2. The Halo Wars 2 Phantom sported a worn-out paint-job, two big propulsion jets on the left and right, a large front cannon, and orange-streaking-afterburners. That was it, there were no additional lights or blue flames, just a simple, iconic design. However, when you see the new details, they are a bit underwhelming. The cannon has been scrapped for a smooth-bored front, there are orange lights covering the phantom, 4 blue jets on the bottom of the phantom, and several jets from the back. The design of the large front engines were scrapped, and the paint-job looks freshly repaired by Huragok. The interior of the phantom is also rather bare and too silver. These are just my thoughts. And I look forward to seeing yours.
I’m not one to get too caught up with visuals but the Phantom shown in Infinite looks …odd
The Banished Phantoms in Halo Wars 2 look pretty good, better than what we have seen in Infinite so far.
Yeah, Infinite’s phantom needs a serious redesign. The phantom is renowned for it’s sleek design, not being a strange blocky mess. It’s chin gun needs to be reapplied too, the sound it makes when firing in H3 and reach is simply iconic. Lastly the side mounted plasma cannons should certainly be remodeled rather than just using the H5 model, which simply doesn’t fit the Banished aesthetic, I’d suggest replacing them with a modified Type-52 plasma cannon.
The problem is that it looks like it was built from the ground up. When Banished stuff is supposed to be repurposed/up-armored technology that was captured from other factions. So it should be a more curved phantom with extra metal plating riveted on to it.

Even the original Banished phantom in HW2 suffered from this, it was a completely new and original design as opposed to their other vehicles being modified existing Covenant vehicles, even in Infinite the Ghost is clearly recognizable as a heavily modified Type-32 model, and the Banshee being a Type-26B model. I’d much prefer they take the Type-52 phantom and give it the same treatment as they did with the ghost and banshee. And while they’re at it I’d like my Type-26 wraith model back, as the one in Infinite seems to be more modeled after the Type-58 aside from the cannon.

And that’s the problem. HW2 being an RTS means that the unit models don’t have to be as detailed, but more importantly, we only see that Phantom from above. Whereas this one we’ll be seeing it from below more often.

Honestly i’m rather disapointed how the infinite banished looks 3/4 of the way back to being red covenant, rather than being their hw2 versions.
Yeah it’s not great at all when you look at the banished from halo wars two, despite that game being cartoony. I was kinda hoping for the same look like in the halo wars cutscenes just lower quality. But instead we got roblox mixed with halo…

Its just a bit more blocky isnt it?
Why do you think they changed it so much? I can get removing spikes (like on Banished Wraith) and such because that can cause some understandable problems, but what would cause them to change is from it HW2 counterpart?

except… they arent. From a gameplay perspective, its a terrible idea to just use the HW2 design for all enemies.

Maybe it was too taxing on the slipspace engine? The most likely is that they just focused on all the bad stuff from E3
