What do you suck at with air vehicles exactly?
Depends on the phaeton.
If it’s the default, I just use the secondary missiles to deal with enemies, with only using the primary in certain occasions.
If it’s the phaeton helios, I love using both primary and secondary in certain roles. I use primary mainly for infantry enemies, and secondary for vehicles or large groups of infantry.
I always use evade too, I spam the blam out of it. Make yourself a hard target by constantly evading and moving around (strafing).
Banshees can be a bane of existence to you due to their better evades and fuel rods. So if you see them, take them out first.
Can’t really do anything about weapons on the ground that can track air targets, so just be diligent and listen to the “alarm” that goes off when you’re being tracked by a weapon and strafe / evade when necessary.

Okay. My tips would be to hang around cover and use your boosts wisely.
There is a learning curve to most weapons and vehicles. Take it slow, and practice, you will get better as you go.
It’s honestly just practice. Halo 5 has a big learning curve once you hit that curve it’s smooth sailing for the most part from there
3 months ago, with my first phaeton I got 0 kills before being splasered. Recently I got 55 in WZA (not regular WZ) so I timed out.
Biggest thing is practice. Also watch experienced players and see what/when/where they do things. For example, camp right by cover (like the middle base) in a Phaeton so you can evade over it if needed
