In Halo 4 the weapons felt so weak. There was no power to them, I didn’t ever feel like I was making an impact into the player I was shooting. In Reach and 3 this was different. The weapons sounded heavy and damaging. I could feel bullets hitting the enemy I was discharging my weapon out. I missed that feeling in Halo 4. Everything sounded like it was just bouncing of the shields not doing anything. Heck, even the almighty plasma pistol in Reach sounded like it was large and charge.

Disagree 99%, the PP did sound better in Reach. (That is the 1% I agree with)
Halo 4 weapons mainly sound great to me.
Love the Assault rifle, Sniper and Fuel Rod especially (I know a lot of people don’t like the FR)
agree with the pp comments though
In some ways I agree–some of the weapons do sound a little weak. That said, conventional ballistic weapons do sound much more high-pitched than older movies and games have depicted them. The Halo 4 magnum’s sounds are much more realistic than the Halo: CE AR’s.
Really? I think the complete opposite. Not only were Halo 4’s weapons indeed more powerful, they sounded like ballistic weapons probably would 500 years from now. The audio in Halo 4 was perfectly done, minus the music.
Overall the weapons sound great to me in Halo 4.
I think they nailed them, especially the Splaser sound.
There are only a few exceptions that I think sound a bit off or weak like the Storm Rifle for example.
I’m going to have to completely disagree here. I found Halo 4’s weapon sounds to be terrific, which isn’t a surprise given that they’re made from recordings of actual explosions rather than being computer generated.
I liked the sound of the Reach AR a lot. Sounded clean and powerful. But Halo 4 does capture the sound of futuristic weapons i think. BR doesnt sound weak to me, nor does the AR. DMR sounds a little clunky but…they all sound very mechanical. Which i dont think is bad. Light rifle sounds great…i think they did a great job with all the forerunner weaponry actually.
I really like the sounds in general actually.
The AR in Halo 3 sounded like a joke.
Granted, theres nothing like unloading with those dual SMGs but…i think sound in general has improved with each game.
I agree somewhat. I felt they tried to make the weapons sound realistic when they should of tried to make them sound spacey and very sci-fi. However, I did like some of the new weapon sounds, like the assault rifle and DMR. However, most of the weapons do sound pretty weak. I hope they will go with more of a unrealistic root with their weapon design.
Halo 4 sounds better to me.
When listening to the sounds from the video that Austin posted, AR sounds like it went super saiyan.

AR does sound a lot more powerful, its pretty obvious. I wish that video compared the Halo 3 BR to the Halo 4 BR.

So, exactly the same, or in many cases, notably inferior to ballistic weaponry today?
I don’t mind the weapon sounds of Halo 4 for the most part. The only weapon I actively dislike the sound of is the Storm Rifle. Part of the reason for that is sometimes when there would be a lag spike online, the audio would be a little odd and for whatever reason the storm rifle would sound amazing for a second or two.
I didn’t mind the UNSC weapons, but something just felt off. The weapon sounds of Halo 4 all had this ‘synthetic’ feel to them, which worked for the Covy/Promethean weapons, but made the UNSC weapons seem ever so slightly off.
I definitely agree with you. I don’t care for the sound of the storm rifle or plasma pistol, and I would prefer a slightly more throaty sound for the DMR BR and AR, and probably even the SAW. The sniper rifle and fuel rod cannon both sounded absolutely awful and I still dislike the aesthetic design of the human sniper. Beam rifle is ok but not my favorite iteration.
In short, gun designs have gone down across the board when it comes to my personal satisfaction. Most of them handle better but it would be nice if they felt and sounded better.
Less sci-fi sounding, more gritty and dangerous sounding please. I know it doesn’t actually matter what they sound like, but it would still make me happier.
Watched the video.
I think Halo 4s guns sound better, except for the sniper. I like the classic sniper sound.
Halo 4’s reloading sounds are too exaggerated on a few guns, though.
Agreed, I’ve got to say Reach had by far the best-sounding weapons, as well as the best weapon aesthetics in general.
Anything sounds better than the Halo 3 Stappler Gun (AR).
I actually agree with OP. I think, while some sounds were ok, most of them just weren’t right. And even the ones that DID sound more powerful, I just don’t think they have a place in Halo.
Halo is a Sci-Fi game, it is not meant to or needs to be realistic. Therefore having Battlefield-esque realistic sounds isn’t really in-keeping with the rest of the theme.
In fact, I felt that in Halo 4 it just showed the ageing signs of Halo.
Basically, I feel 100% that the gun sounds were seriously naff! Just like the rest of Halo 4. The graphics, the animation, the armour, the art style, the music (especially the music like the War Games menu music makes me want to throw up every time I hear that crap), just to mention a few aspects of the game that were tacky and naff.
Halo 4 was the ‘Benidorm’ of the gaming world haha!
Slightly off-topic there, but anyway, Reach had the sounds perfect…
Reach had the best sound effects, although Halo 4 had a few winners. I agree, OP: we need loud, dangerous-feeling weapons… for humans. For the Storm, they seem to use older weapons, and besides that, they’re alien weapons. They could sound like anything 343i wants.
