Permaban for bigots

Bigotry is often caused by a lack of exposure to a group (If you disagree then I’d encourage you to lookup Daryl Davis and how his interactions with -Yoink!- members had actually quelled their racism).
If somebodies only exposure to a trans person is that they became this sacred cow and got them banned in a video game, then they are likely to form negative opinions about that person. Everybody gets made fun of and insulted but the difference here is it’s okay for this trans person to cause more consequences for that because they’re trans. That’s going to cause anger towards the trans people and will shape their opinions.

I’d encourage you to rethink some of your beliefs on this matter because quite frankly they do more harm to our culture than good.

I appreciate what you’re getting at here. I really do, but my primary concern is with preventing harassment. I’m not really concerned with people’s personal ability to grow and learn. That’s not what I really think of when I think of online multiplayer software.

To be fair, you are the one finding offense to it.

Holy -Yoink!-, 170 days?

At that point, this post should’ve been locked.

Eh, I just taught myself to ignore people who try to cause a problem with me. Been dealing with it in games for nearly 30 years now. Found that if they can’t get to you, they generally get bored and eventually leave you alone.

Lol why did you even come here to say this?

“Stop playing halo the way you want and start playing Halo the way I think people should.”

It’s laughable to say “just play Halo” when you’re literally on the forums harassing someone for talking about their experience playing Halo. Clearly you don’t have anything you intend to contribute here.

Everyone step back! Majin here is gonna be super real.

You got all that from three paragraphs on a video game forum? We truly are dealing with a superb brain genius. I should have known someone would have seen through my clever plot.

Trust me, those aren’t the words I would use to describe you, slugger.

Don’t care. They have nothing to do with the posted topic.

I’m a numbers sign person for voicing my opinion on ban terms, got it. It’s a little severe to jump straight to calling someone a numbers sign person for discussing ban terms on a video game forum, but to each their own, I suppose.

“A little trash talk is an expected part of competitive multiplayer action, and that’s not a bad thing,”

  • from Xbox Live Community standards.

Even Microsoft acknowledges the difference between acceptable, “Trash talk.” Which is something I very much love to do, and harassment.

True, but I also care about having a thriving and friendly community to come back to. It’s fun to engage with the social aspects of online gaming when there’s nobody there to call you a slur.

bet you i’ve got bigger delts, you even lift bro?

Quite frankly we could do with an in game report button as a general quality of life addition, 343i seem to be relying on the XBL report method for console warriors and a website for PC users. However, proof is lost when you flip the reporting process out to a 2nd party, have to generate clips, pics, type using a thumbstick, etc. this probably results in a lot of incomplete reports which will essentially get ignored, or reports that don’t get filed because people can’t be bothered.

You need to be able to click on a profile in game, select profanity, or whatever, and then just select a “when did this happen” drop down to select “<1 minute ago, <3 minutes ago”, or “Sometime in this game” option. Flash up with a warning saying “abuse of the system will result in a ban” and bobs your uncle. 343 will be able to inspect in game clips of up to 3 minutes in length and then act upon them when the frequency of reports hits an arbitrary number. They can the inspect, Click a button to ban or not, and you get a “your report was unsuccessful” or whatever automated in game pop-up.

Tldr: The system is minimal at the moment. Could do with improvement.

They won’t even reprimand Frank O’Connor for objectifying women in a public forum or for blatant Islamaphobia. So I’m not sure what hope there is for an intelligent handling of toxic behavior when they purposely made reporting people difficult to avoid spamming.
