'Perks'

We’ve all heard that H4 matchmaking will contain game-changing perks. I have a theory about them. I think that they will be intergrated into armour and will hopefully have up and down sides to them. (e.g. You can have 50% more health or sheild, but move 50% slower, or move 25% faster, but have 25% less melee damage.)
I think this would be a balancing factor, helping everyone to play as they want to play (in a certain gameplay style.) I also think that armour abilities should make a return, with some new and some old, but no armour lock, and an overshield instead.
Thoughts?

That would still give players an objective, tangible advantage over newer ones.

Is that what Hotshot’s been all about in Action Sack? Is this the precursor to an ‘unlockable ability’? Do not want.

Lolnothanks

We don’t need uesless gimmicks.

I do not want these to be unlockables, I want to see some ‘starter perks’ and then have the ability to upgrade them into slightly different abilities. Then you could earn points to upgrade after completing challeges or earning xp or ranking up. (Check out Deus Ex: Human Revolution and ‘Praxis Points’.)

No thanks, brah.

if you look in the reveal, the spartan 4 is walking slow and shooting at the enemy getting shot back at. so, your theory might be right.

I dont really care as long as this stuff isnt implemented everywhere or we have the options to remove it. That being said, what was described sounds like the worst thing ever and it really isnt balance in the sense of gameplay. Its balance in the sense of give and take. That type of balance does not equate to good gameplay.

Rock-paper-scissors gameplay? No thanks.

Perks should be minor tweaks… extra ammo, larger clip size, an extra frag off spawn, quicker reloading. Not health/damage buffs.

If there really are perks, they should be really low percentage increases, like a +1% damage. it may not seem like much, but iv noticed in other games that give that minor plus 1% it can make a difference.

I think any perk they have should just give VERY minor stat upgrades to reinforce a players play style, Ex: someone who likes to rush could get +5% damage mitigation, and someone who likes precision weaponry like the BR can get -5% bloom(if bloom is in i mean).

That way nothing becomes utterly over powered, it just helps a player settle into a play style.

perks would be -Yoinking!- limited

For once i can actually see perks working, (like the 1-2% dmg buff or the larger clip or 1 more frag) but another way one could look at it is like the battle field 3 “perk” system. for example if you choose a engineer class you could repair vehicles. Or the EVA you have larger FOV and better vehicle handling. Or a demo-man could get an extra frag. Recon could have more ammo. Scout could have less recoil (because in the fire look there was recoil)I dont know about have a larger bonus but then have a deficit (like +20% health -20% speed) But idk.

Well, what if you could get 3 perks from armor, Helemt, Body, and Wrist Ap. The helm could change your FOV, and weapon accesory. The bodt could alter damage mitigation, melee damage, or max ammo/starting ammo. The wrist Ap could give you a map, or maybe some other stuff like a comm hacker so you could listen in on the enemies, or a tracking system so you could knwo where enemies are, but it would be activated and temporary, similar to Reachs AA’s.

Then you could have 3 armor mod slits, where you could get really small percentage upgrades like bullet damage, damage mitigation, accuracy, etc etc but the percentages are really small, like topping off at 5-7%.

> (e.g. You can have 50% more health or sheild, but move 50% slower,

So basically like Armor Lock, just you can move instead of being stuck at one place?

I dont want the way my spartan looks to affect anything. i want to be able to wear any helmet etc. without going “oh wait that has a worse FOV”

I agree with most people on this, the possibility of having unfair advantages over others should not be a part of Halo. All players have equal abilities, they shouldn’t receive crutches.

> I dont want the way my spartan looks to affect anything. i want to be able to wear any helmet etc. without going “oh wait that has a worse FOV”

Im hoping that rather than our looks affecting our perks, our perks affect our look. like if you get a perk for extra spawning ammo it adds an extra ammo pouch to your belt. or if you get a perk for a faster but shorter sprint (slightly shorter overall distance, but covered a bit faster, such that the overall speed over longer distances is the same as normal sprint), it modifies how your leg joints look somehow. Only small, simple details that show how the perk would function. if you don’t like how it looks, choose a different perk, or modify the rest of your armor to go with it.

the way i hope to see them implemented is in a balanced manner In which advantages are canceled out by disadvantages. it forces you to play smart. you know sour opponent has an advantage if you face him head on, but you might be slightly more mobile than him and can outmaneuver him. its similar to how it is now, making decisions based on your opponents weapons. only adds another level. not like CoD at all where perks are all plus and no minus.

That said, if they disappeared i would shed no tears. but they are (unofficially) announced, so not likely.

343 said no perks in the way we think of them. lolperks.
They never mentioned perks. They only mentioned armor affecting gameplay, and customizable loadouts.
Honestly, sounds alot like perks to me.
