Perks in Halo 4

So will we get perks in halo 4 i was thinking silecers maybe bigger magazines stuff like that or faster jump higher so voice your opinion on what you want to see

The official name (now) is Specializations and they were described to function differently from perks. They won’t give you huge asymmetrical advantages like greater lunge, infinite sprint or invisible to motion tracker, just slight ones like an extra grenade on spawn, more ammo on spawn or a slight health/shield regen.

So basically the Specializations we know of now are:

Extra grenade

More ammo

Health/Shield regen

This is relevant.

And I don’t think I particularly want these specialisations (perks, as you call them OP) in Halo 4 Matchmaking. Once there’s a few playlists without them, I’m fine.

It will be at least something to fall back to in case there are 3 or 4 specializations that are OP. I wonder if the classic options will utilize a classic score system or that new point system that gives out points for doing certain things (killing with grenades, pummels, headshots etc.)

I’ll try them out at first but i really hope it’s just slight advantages. That even if you are using them, it’s no replacement for skill and useless if you keep dying.

I know allot of the old school Halo junkies won’t like hearing this, but I like the idea of perks (regardless of wht you call them), as long as they are attached to a reward system and that they are not to dramatic.

I am a big COD fan, but I’m the first to admit that dramatic does not belong in Halo. But why not have a perk that is technologically believable, given the universe we are talking about. An upgraded jet pack, sighting system, shield regeneration speed, heart beat sensor attachement, silencer, granade launcher or shotgun attachement on the battle rifle, quick draw, steady aim, etc.

Having walk and run as standard to the game would be great. Run should not be a perk, babies do it for goodness sake! Please … Please … Please … do not bring in falling boxes with presents of strafe runs to HALO … PLEASE.

I don’t want anything that gives me an asymmetrical advantage over another player. If 343i accomplishes this, I have absolutely no problem with Specializations.

the only one that might give somewhat of an advantage is faster regen. but since 343 has not provided specifics on that yet i hope for the best. Higher grenade and ammo capacity is useful but at the same time provides no serious advantage

343 isn’t going to add stupid things like killstreaks. If you’ve ever been in a game where you are getting pooped on (say spawn trapped in BTB) this rewards the players who are doing good and there would be no way to break the set up as you are dying by Longsword bombing runs and players piloting Pelicans to kill you (ala Gunship from BOs).

However, weapon attachments do not belong in Halo as that is considered as an asymmetrical advantage (basically something that is unbalanced) and would break the core idea of spawning as equals (something Specializations are being accused of breaking already). It’s not necessary either and adds the illusion of depth to Halo.

You can say “but 343 is adding weapon skins!” but weapon skins generally only affect the look of the guns they are applied to. The selected gun will function the same. Attachments usually change the guns function (as in extra clips, faster rate of fire etc) and can create the possibility of imbalance.

Eh, faster regen doesn’t really worry me though. I mean, if you are in a BR/DMR fight with a player that has the faster regen, it wouldn’t come into play at all unless they run away and get to cover. Which if that person does run away, it’s never a good idea to chase them in the first place.

Ya Im not sure but that would bring alot of change thats for sure.

I think it will bring about alot of welcomed changes.
