Performance should affect battle pass progression

I can’t be the only one who thinks its odd how because of the way the battle pass works even with the new daily challenge that a game where you get 20 kills with no deaths gives you the same battle pass exp as a game where you get 0 kills and 20 deaths. They should make the exp sytem work like it does in basically every other game you get exp for playing the game and match performance should affect how much exp you get per game with the challenges being the side option for bonus exp and not the only way to gain exp.

I stated this during both flights as have many other players, but for some reason, 343i didn’t listen. They had months to take that feedback and say “hey, you know what? Clearly the player base would be much happier if we did this so let’s do that” but instead just flat ignored us. Really makes it feel like I could just start a match and kick back and watch Netflix and earn XP cause there’s not way for anyone to report players for being AFK(Not saying I’m doing this, just pointing out that some people might do that)

343 already said they’re working on giving us more performance-based XP, like for kills and medals during matches.

First of all we’re in early access so take into consideration that making changes to the progression system takes TIME. Second they didn’t ignore us, they’ve mentioned that they’re working on making changes to it multiple times both in the blogs on Waypoint and during their livestreams.

This is great to hear. Can you provide a link?

I haven’t seen any new acknowledgment of progression and what they’re planning after this week’s updated system.

Yeah! So yesterday they did a Community Playdate stream on Youtube and Twitch, Unyshek and Ske7ch talked about their plans for it as well as other community feedback they’re hearing. If you go to Halo Waypoint and check the news section you’ll find some blog posts about what they heard from the Flights and what they’re doing to make changes, as well as plans for the future such as more opportunities for XP, Free Battlepasses mid-season, and a Career Progression system coming soon

I appreciate that!

I had missed the stream but wondered if it was touched upon there. I will check it out!

I’m especially interested in statements from 343i made after this week’s update, and it sounds like the stream may be the most up to date source of information on this topic so far.

I made a long post about this but it was temporarily hidden due to it being my first post on the new Halowaypoint.

My thread is called “The Real Issue with Progression” sorry I tried linking it but Waypoint won’t let me.

Give it a read if you have a chance, I explain how 343 is essentially gaslighting us by misinterpreting player feedback as “people want to progress faster” when really we just want meaningful progression. I don’t want to assume malevolent intention but it unfortunately looks that way.

They are doubling down on the current system and fixing the wrong problems with minor tweaks. The current progression is so bad I don’t know who ever thought it would be a good idea and I don’t know how they think they can get away with saving it by giving everyone 50 XP no matter what per game. They could give everyone 1,000 XP per game and it still wouldn’t fill the void we’re looking for. Most players don’t want to shred through the battle pass in a week, we just want to be rewarded for our performance. The only way I want to get through the battle pass quickly is if I’m earning that speed by kicking -Yoink!-.

Where did they say they were doing this specifically?

For sure. They did mention that although the changes to the XP system are their top priority, it’ll take some time for them to make and implement those changes so for the time being the change to daily xp was the fastest temporary solution they could do, but again it’s the team’s top priority. I was honestly surprised how fast they made changes to the daily challenge after the feedback

Yeah, I know it takes time. First flight was in August. Many of us stated these same gripes then. I’m not sure how much game design has changed since my days in the industry, but these changes should already be done and implemented at this point. It is possible that I’m being unfair here. For instance, BF2042’s early access had some major issues with Portal, and many of us creating custom experiences stated what we wanted and what we liked, and 2 weeks later on launch, BAM! There were those items and changes(mostly) that we stated we wanted. Maybe come launch on the 8th a lot of what we wanted will be in. IDK. I’m basing this on what I’ve seen thus far. Like the whole “hey you now get points for completing a match.” 50 points? It’s underwhelming.

Again, it’s possible that I’m being unfair to want to see these changes implemented after 2 and a half months.

It was the blog post that came out along with the Beta’s launch. That and the Youtube/Twitch stream like 2 minutes in where they mentioned feedback stuff

If they made these changes for the release build or are working on them it would be nice for them to put out a statement. Then we could all relax and stop talking about it.

Just wanted to state, for the record, I was not being sarcastic whatsoever. Seriously hard to convey emotion via text

Thanks I’ll take a look, it still just baffles my mind that this current system even exists. Should never have gotten this far in my opinion. If it’s fixed for launch they will avoid a catastrophe in regards to player retention

Indeed, I think the biggest thing is to keep in mind they’re working on like 50 things at once trying to get the upcoming Season 1 content in order, new maps and returning modes as well as other patches/hotfixes, plus just finishing the rest of the game in general with polishes because we are technically still in Beta. The 50xp fix was quick and appreciated though so I have hope they’ll implement something Dec 8th or soon in general given that they no doubt want a launch to be as smooth as possible

I agree, but this my friend is exactly why we’re playing the Beta. To provide feedback and make sure everything is to our liking. 343’s been really good about responding to community feedback so far which is more than alot of companies do these days.

That’s very true, like I said earlier I don’t want to assume bad intentions with the half-baked bandage that is “50 XP for all” it just looks that way from a certain point of view. But it’s equally as plausible that it’s all they had time for until launch. I just don’t what them to think they can save this current system with little tweaks, because it won’t work. Performance based XP is essential. All of my faith is put in the fact that they do appear to be listening very closely.

I remember a certain video game where the developers had this same problem. People spent more time focusing on challenges than playing to win and being good team mates. It was a certain game called … Halo Reach

That’s right. Bungie figured this out many years ago. I don’t understand how 343 weren’t aware of how much an issue this would be …
