Perfect Kill - Why So Low?

I’m a relative newcomer to the Halo series, but one thing that surprises me is the low number of perfect kills I see in the post game wrap-up. This goes for myself, teammates and opponents. Often times I’ll lead the board with most head shots, but if I manage 15 kills, I’m lucky if I get 2 perfect kills. More often than not I get 0. To my understanding, all it takes is killing an opponent with the minimum amount of shots with either: Magnum (5) BR(4), Light Rifle(3), or DMR(5). At first, I was thinking all shots needed to be head shots to get the medal, but no, this isn’t necessary.

It implies that dropped shots occur in almost every gun fight. Is anyone else surprised by this? Is there something to be learned from this? Maybe I should be slowing down my shot strings a bit for accuracy. Then again, maybe not. Any thoughts?

Really they do’t all have to be head shots? I’m skeptical of this. Talking about your surprise to the low number of perfect kills, i’d find it silly if it was more common than not. glad its harder to get then other medals and making it easier would be silly. Eventually though you will find it easier to obtain. my shots are definitely connecting more often than before. with all weapons. practice makes perfect.
I know for certain the light rifle scoped body shots pop shields in two and the last head shot gives a perfect kill. do 3 BR body shots pop shields too? havent noticed bc 2 is easier a number than 3 lol

“Puuurrfect’s”… had to say it… aren’t the easiest thing to pull off in this game. If my shot is really good, I can maybe pull 3-5 per game, but when you’re in the moment, reacting, and just firing shots off at the first thing that moves, you’re going to miss some shots, especially against good players.

It also doesn’t count if another player does any amount of damage to your target beforehand, even if it still takes 5 full magnum shots to take them down. Otherwise, the low numbers don’t surprise me at all. Throwing a few rounds is very easy to do with the new aiming mechanics, I’m lucky if I get more than one per game, sometimes I don’t get any.

This is true…

Headshots don’t do any extra damage against shields, so you can aim at the body when their shields are still up. The only headshot that matters is the one against their unshielded head.

With the BR though, it takes the first two shots of the 4th burst to pop their shields, so technically you’ll be aiming at a shielded head for that last burst.

They’re not supposed to be easy. I get an average of 1 per 5-6 kills if my shot is on. There are some caveats with the medal to be aware of though.

  • Assists negate the medal. So getting a 3 shot on someone your teammate shot once won’t give the medal.
  • Missing shots BEFORE first hitting the target will NOT negate the medal. So you can miss then hit him 5 times with your pistol and it will count.
  • A 4 shot with an unscoped Light Rifle will not give the medal at any time. This one kinda annoys me because technically your aim was perfect you just weren’t scoped in.
  • Only the killing shot needs to be a headshot. Dropping their shields can be done with bodyshots.

Well, maybe because you had another teammate shooting at him as well? That would be my guess in Arena gametypes at least.

Bingo! Most of the time an opponent has been peppered from pistol shots acroos the map.

Yeah, I’ve actually tested out the PK in a custom game with a buddy and confirmed head shots aren’t necessary. To my knowledge the BR pops shields with 11 rounds (3 bursts from 3 rounds bursts + 2 rounds from the 4th burst) and the final round of the 4th burst can kill if it’s a head shot.

This is how it’s always been.

I don’t have a problem. Loaded with perfect kills and rocking the Eye of the Beast emblem.

good point on the previous damage. this would ruin a PK possibility

Perfect kills rely around your target being at full shield lets a you use a BR you need to land all 4 shots without a single bullet missing you can do it either way whether you 3 shot in body and one in the head or 4 shot all into the head it just needs to be done in the most precise way sometimes you wont get the perfect even if you 4 shot just because one of your bullets out of the 3 may miss so be wary of that

Every shot that hits the Spartans’ shield doesn’t have to be a headshot, the final bullet does.
