Perfect Gametype: Opinions and Help required!

Over the past few months I’ve cared less and less for the series that really got me into gaming. I love the lore and the rich universe that is in the campaigns as well as books, the music is brilliant, never failing to to impress me. I love the MC & Cortana relationship, and while there were faults with the campaign in 4, overall it’s the most enjoyable since 2 for me.

Now this is where it gets a little negative, the multiplayer for me is a chore. I don’t mind things like sprinting, armour abilities and no duel wielding, but all the little things that 343 added are just a pain in the -Yoink-.

I’ve been screaming out for a classic playlist since the game released and it doesn’t sound like it’s going to happen…so what about putting a classic twist on the Halo 4 mix instead? Below is a list of my personal perfect playlist.

General Settings

  • fixed loadout
  • Battle Rifle & Assault Rifle
  • 2 frags
  • Tactical Package: Grenadier
  • 3 second respawn time (no instant)
  • Normal classic Weapon Pick ups
  • Make DMR a pick up rather than starting
  • Have all 3 sets of grenades
  • Bring back the ‘Race for the power weapons’!
  • Armour Ability pick ups
  • Sprint
  • No initial ordnance
  • Limited Personal Ordnance (need 10 kills to call in)
  • Left: Armour Abilities
  • Middle: Top up (battle rifle, assault rifle, grenades, overshield)
  • Right: ‘Tier 2’ weapons (DMR, Shotgun, needler, concussion rifle)

As I said, things like Armour Abilities and sprint are fine additions, but they need to bring back that feel of a Halo game again. The only problem I’m having is the fact that none of these maps support normal weapon drops, So I guess someone would have to and forge the weapons.

This isn’t a “HELL 343 your game is broken, here is how to fix it” it’s more of a way to appeal both the the old school fan base, and the new guys who have joined in the recent years.

Side Note
I need a hand with putting all the weapon spawns on all the maps. If anyone is good with this please message me, I’ve already started, but all maps apart from Valhalla need classic weapon spawns!

The br is a classic, it’s been the starting weapon in 2/3 and its the old faithful. Unlike the dmr, it’s not a rapping machine, it has its faults but when used well it can truly shine on all maps.

The reason I made the dmr a ‘tier 2’ weapon, was because its not in the same league in terms of destruction as other weapons, but it’s not really suited for the starting out either because it is so powerful.

The way I see the dmr is the same way as three evolution Pokemon

You have the cute little one that can hold its own in a fight: charmander
Then you have the evolution of that, slightly more powerful and you’ll use it for a while: chameleon
Then you have the final form which is a powerhouse of destruction: charizard

Now, putting that in halo terms: magnum > battle rifle > dmr.

They are all the same gun pretty much, but as they get bigger they become more powerful.

…does any of that nonsense make sense?

I would’ve gone with an AR start, but other than that this is perfect

I have been working on a gametype & custom Haven variant which uses elements from classic & Infinity gameplay, and I have come up with something I believe to be truly amazing.

You should give it a try.

Either start with AR or BR not both. The secondary should start as the magnum.

I actually think it’s a pretty fantastic playlist, i personally wouldn’t have ordinance in any capacity but i could deal with the 10 kills.

In addition, armour ability pick ups should be handled with care, or symmetrically distributed as best possible on the maps, my only thinking is that some are fundamentally more useful than others on certain maps, so having red spawn get Hologram and blue get Jet Pack on a map like Haven could tip the balance to blue spawn.
