Perfect Game Sullied By ZERO Incentive!

There is zero reward or incentive for skilled players or dedicated players to play this game. It’s abhorrent that there is no leveling system and only having a battlepass makes it look like a cash grab or the devs don’t have any understanding of how modern multiplayer games retain a playerbase. There is no differentiation between people who put the time and people who took their credit card to pay for tier 100. The “free” content is a joke and spits in the face of players who spent 60$ to buy the game. Calling it “Reach Customization” is some of the fakest advertising I’ve ever seen considering there is no leveling system which was the backbone of “Reach Customization”. The current battlepass system is not robust, it’s not complex and if you think it is you haven’t played any other multiplayer game in the last 5 years. This is a sad regression for a game that is supposed to push the genre forward and a hard punch in the gut for all the players who want individuality and incentive that others cannot just buy.

Just add a leveling system, everyone wants one besides the fanboys and the power hungry monitors who keep locking peoples desperate outcry to get a leveling system in the game.

No one wants to get a leveling system POST LAUNCH AND START FROM LEVEL 0 AGAIN!

This is beyond boring. The incentive is the game itself. Are you really that dull that you constantly need a carrot dangled in front of you to keep you playing? Mind-blowing

Yes… just like everyone that’s why season battle passes make so much money, people come to grind through them and then they stop playing. You can act like I’m a clown but statistics and facts are real your self inflated ego is nothing.

The Chad halo hedonist vs the -Yoink!- progression nerd

Not a lot or people play a game just because they enjoy it these days. It’s hard to understand why that is. Like if I love the halo I’m playing…I can spend all day in 1 playlist and unlock absolutely nothing and be happy to get on again next time. That all comes from enjoying the game itself and having friends I play with. I can rock recruit armor all year I wouldn’t care. Having alternate incentives is not a bad idea though, and it gives players this concept of investment to the game. That they aren’t just spinning their wheels amdbgoijg nowhere. So…in those terms…I get that I suppose.

Right there with you. To be perfectly honest, I feel that it largely amounts to brainwashing. There’s no fundamental reason why people couldn’t be perfectly satisfied without progression systems and unlocks etc. The reality is that game developers and publishers invest so much into tricking players into overvaluing those things, so that they fork out on their microtransactions. I’m absolutely convinced about that.

There will be ranked playlists when the game launches. So there’s at least that. I don’t know what the ranks will look like but there will at least be a competitive progression system of some kind. I agree with you though, I could not give two -Yoink- about the battle pass as it stand right now in the flights. The Halo Reach beta let you progress XP ranks and earn credits to unlock cosmetics. The way it worked was engaging, rewarding, and it encouraged the players to keep playing. The Halo Infinite flight with the battle pass just does not have the same effect. Right now people are just playing until they get bored and turning it off, and even worse have nothing to show for it by the end which makes people wonder why they should play at all. I think relying solely on a Battle Pass for this game will end up being the biggest mistake 343i could have made. I hope I’m wrong, if the actual S1 Battle Pass is absolutely amazing I’ll eat crow, but the structure of the battle pass in the flight is bad.

I could give 2 F’s about XP and all that nonsense, I play a game because I enjoy it, I don’t need some kind of incentive.

It’s also very unfair the judge it based on a tech alpha with no game modes and 3 maps and an empty store.

Part of the reason Halo MP became so popular was because of the different ways you could flex on your friends, family, and other players. And that’s been a fundamental part of the game since H2. In H2 it was your rank. In H3-H5 it was your competitive rank and your EXP rank. People want to be able to show off their accomplishments. That’s why the H3 service record was so beloved because you got to show off all of your in game accomplishments and your Spartan/Elite. Buying a battle pass just isn’t a flex. Plain and simple.

Hmm, how do modern games retain players?

Ranked playlists are fine for some but I just would rather see something like Reach’s named ranked so I could feel like I have accomplished something with the game. Also I agree about the Battle Pass since I just can’t see myself playing endless hours if the game ends up with BP content that I’m not interested in. It kind of makes me feel like I’ll play some Infinite matchs then go back to leveling up in MCC. Also if Infinite does end up having long term ranks like Reach then I hope they stay away from the awful 152 rank system and maybe focus on a mix of MCC and Halo Reach for ranks since I hated how boring and grindy Halo 5’s rank system was since Inheritor was more meaningful than 152.

The Halo 3 competitive ranking system, and the Halo Reach EXP system where two of the things on my wishlist for Infinite. I feel you. I didn’t like the SR ranks either.

Not sure about competitive ranking system…I remember after a while my actual rank didn’t really go up even if I was doing the best despite losing the match.
Yeh I don’t understand why 343i thought SR were the way to go since they were boring since the Reach ranks were better but I hope the MCC ranks are the way to go since I don’t mind going up tiers since be interesting to have something similar like maybe blue inheritor, etc…

This is just a test, you do realise that don’t you? I’m sure they will improve the xp/reward grind for the full game. This is all about getting feedback on the game ie how it feels how well controllers or m&k are working is the game crashing and so on. It’s not about rewarding you for playing it. The reward is that you got into the flight to have an early glimpse at the game that’s all.

Yeah I would agree a post launch leveling system is too little too late. This is why people were practicing begging for infinite news, to give feedback…

If I want to flex on someone I’ll flex my hard earned gains in real life. My bicep is a mountain compared to anyone’s accomplishments in a freaking halo game son.

Partially kidding. I mean yes, they are mountains, but no I do not flex on people. I don’t care about flexing a rank either. I’m 36 years old for crying out loud. It would be kind of pathetic if the main reason I played a game was to impress someone…it’s worth it if your goal is to get into the AMs and become professional or something, but in the game? I mean who cares. A ranking system exists more as a means to find you fair games than for you to feel a sense of ego for being at a certain rank tier.

As a means of player investment, it’s great to have unlocks and all that stuff. Some people need that. How you go about doing it, if its a battle pass or not etc…I guess that’s all subjective opinion? I mean personally I don’t even care. Give me a good game. Anything else is icing on the cake.

I played halo since og Xbox, played them all. I play them to have fun with randoms and friends. The only incentive I need is to have memorable experiences with any video game I play. Not unlocking cosmetics or ranking up.

If all my hours in TF2 say anything it is better to have a game with depth then a game with flashing lights saying what a good boy you are if they want this game to last focusing on gameplay should be priority player satisfaction will follow. I mean TF2 still has a high pop player base even after being abandoned by valve its a tested and true formula.

Very true. Actually when you think about what the OP is saying, it’s simply a matter of “I wanted to gather XP/game to have a level go up corresponding with my XP/game.” But really all that is then is just a measure of how many games you’ve played, so you can just look at that stat if that’s what you care about.

I am an OG, day one Halo 2 Xbox Live player. I’m almost ashamed to admit how many games I played of that (…several thousands) without caring for armors, colors, skins, helmets, etc. As you say, the fun was just the experience in and of itself. All this fluff on games now honestly is so exhausting for me. Maybe I’m just getting old. I do like the customization of games now but it’s not my primary incentive for buying any game.

Speaking of Halo 2, that game’s ranking (not “leveling”) system was something fun to keep up with. I wouldn’t mind something like that. RL has a similar ranking concept that I like.

What makes Halo great are the enjoyable weapons, fun maps, and variety of engagements. It looks like Infinite has the weapons and engagements down. The quality of maps are yet to be seen for me.
