I’m really enjoying the rewards for winning and playing good (at least until I complete the battle pass, then it will be kinda pointless and I wish there was some sort of rank to work towards), but I see a problem with the fact that the game rewards you with 250 XP in BTB and 150 (or something) XP in Arena just for playing, it’s just too much and it kinda defies the purpose of rewarding players for winning.
When you win a BTB CTF match with a tight 3-2 last minute score it’s really disappointing to be rewarded 250 XP for playing and a meager 50 XP for winning. Why do we get rewarded 5 TIMES the points we get for winning a hard-fought game, while at the same time knowing the losing team get rewarded with basically the same amount of XP?
I would scrap the “just for playing reward” altogether and keep the winning, MVP, top half rewards only, something like
250 XP for winning
50 XP for top half in your team
50 XP for MVP
That would MASSIVELY incentivize player to play as a team and play to win.
I know this might be a controversial opinion because it would slow down BP progression for a lot of people who don’t have much time to play the game, but that could be solved easily by doubling above mentioned reward amounts and/or keeping a very small reward (50XP) you get for completing a game, regardless of winning/losing.
Another reason people might not agree with this system is that they feel it would make the social playlists too competitive which is not what casual players like (me included), but I think this system would result in players, even the more casual ones, learning how to play the game like a team rather than learning how to shoot better than other players, meaning an overall improvement of how matches play out. I think it’s possible to play matches to win while at the same time not sweating like a HCS pro, just by playing with a teamplay mindset.
So in short please decrease/remove XP rewards just for completing matches, and increase the winning/MVP rewards accordingly if needed.
I didn’t notice, I played BTB all day yesterday and I kept getting 250XP at the end of each match just for completing the game. I’ll double check next time I play. Just to be clear, I’m talking about the rewards you get at the end of each match, not the daily challenges (SPOILS OF SPARTA, etc.)
Yeah I think they changed it with the winter update, I’m trying to link you an image of the kind of reward I’m talking about from their winter update blog but it won’t let me post links. It’s the reward that appears under the “MATCH REWARDS” column on the left at the end of each match, stuff like “ARENA MATCH COMPLETE”
Right, no reward when losing is probably too hardline, but I still think there needs to be a big gap between the reward for playing and the reward for winning in favor of the latter. In the current state it’s the opposite and it should change imo.
Oh yeah i agree with you 100%. Ideally, the bulk of the XP earned should not come from finishing a match. This new system is much better than the one we had for the last year, but it needs some tweaks.
I think it is fine to have a baseline per-match XP payout, but I also like your idea for rewarding winning at least a bit more. Maybe make it an even payout between winning and simply completing the match. It’s tough, given the community gets very very antsy about how sweaty they think Infinite can be (which tbf it definitely is at times), but even with bad luck you’ll still get on the winning team like 40% of the time. Would certainly help to get people to play the objective too.
I highly disagree with the OP here, the Fact is the Match XP was implemented for Faster Battle Pass Progression not a player progression system therefore the Winning XP compared to the Match Played XP shouldn’t matter just be glad the Battle Pass is no longer a Grind Factor.
But the battlepass is literally the only form of progression this game has.
Of course who doesn’t like progressing faster? That’s not the reason I’d rather not have the match completed reward to be so high, as I said in the OP you could simply double the reward for winning and you’d progress just as fast considering the average win rate for players is 40-60% (I guess, I didn’t look into it… but there’s no reason to think people lose the vast majority of games they play)
The BP not being a grind and decreasing XP rewards just for playing aren’t mutually exclusive, you could still have a progression system that’s not a grind AND have the advantage of incentivizing people to play as a team by increasing the reward for winning / decreasing the match completed reward.
They may as well not even sell exp boosters now. Leveling up is so jokingly easy… Already half way through the 30 tier battle pass and it’s only the second day lol.
You’d think playing the match would be the least exp giving item they provide too. Winning, top 50% of preforming on your team, MVP, ect. you’d think would all provide more…
You would think; seeing as how challenges and boosters and whatnot are baked into the progression systems though, we likely won’t see them going anywhere anytime soon. I know I’ve got tons of boosters and swaps, thankfully, but it doesn’t seem like I’ll be running out of them anytime soon.
Disagree, especially for BTB. BTB matches are often much longer than just jumping into a Team Slayer match. If I’m gonna be rewarded with just as much XP for completing a 15 minute long CTF BTB match as I would for a 6-7 minute Team Slayer match, I’m being incentivized to go to team or social slayer to farm more XP. The longer matches that generally happen in BTB should get an extra boost to balance out the faster TS/SWAT playlist matches.
