Pepakura Motorcycle helmet

Hi everyone!

(I know this kind of thing is more for the 405th but i cant seem to register to post. I figure some of those people are on here too so hopefully they can help)

Im looking to change my motorbike helmet into a decent piece of Mjolnir Armor.
my problem is this is the first time i have done this so i am looking for general tips on what to do.

I already know I should use thick paper & I need to scale it but im looking more for when the pep is made and ready to fibreglass.

I WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR THIS WONT BE MY MAIN HELMET, JUST A BIT OF FUN TO TAKE TO THE ODD SHOW AND TO PICK UP HALO 4 so comments on how it wont be legal etc although constructive, dont matter.

As I type this I am on my second pep build with paper, just to get a feel for the folds etc.

I will be posting pictures at each step to show progress.

Any and all comments are welcome so please, fire away.

I’m working on a whole set of Spartan armor myself, but I don’t think using an actual helmet would work. You can use the visor though, that’d be just fine. I used these tutorials to help me make it and they’re great. After I made my first armor part, I was able to start on the others (shoulders, knees, etc.) without watching the tutorial. It’s easy to get the hang of once you’ve started.

Sorry, just noticed that part. Well, that tutorial should still be helpful either way.

Thanks anyway though mate.

Today I finnished the chin/bottom jaw piece and taped it to the helmet just to get a feel for how it would look, it looks good (even though its just a rough build using paper), the cap looks a bit dodgy though.

Pics will be following…

Not a problem. I’d like to see the pics, so I’ll be checking this topic.

Hey man sorry is been a while but i just got super busy with work and… well life.

please follow the link below for the most recent images. I found doing it from paper first very usefull, it gave me a chance to work out what parts i need to cut out for a closer fit to the motorbike helmet. Where vents would match up (luckly) to the rebreathers and the top grooved areas

Im going to start the thick paper build today so I’ll post again when done.

looks like it’s coming along nicely

Thanks B

I think it would be neat to see someone tried to design Master Chiefs Halo 4 armor. IMO!

Yeah I agree (maybe next project)
Problems are i cant find any good pep files and i dont really like the new helmet (yet, i’ve yet to see much of it in all angles in any detail)

Besides, the H2/3 helmet is iconic IMO.

Ive been working with the card today and found it is much easier thean using paper.

Hey everyone,
I Applied the resin today. Was’nt as bad as everyone says although I was wearing a respirator and eye gear.

Take a look at the pics

As you can see its really coming along nicely (big fat grin)!! The only issue is that I was a bit sloppy with the resin so there is some blobs on the surface but i’ll just sand them back.

I have found that the back portion doesnt really fit well so I need to cut that back so it fits nice and tight. I’ll be doing that tomorrow.

'till next time…

Looks nice.

Hey

Sorry its been a while but all the work I’ve been doing is inside the helmet so no changes to show.

As I said, all my work has been inside so I’ve reached the point where I’ve had to prep the actual helmet, this involved removing all the plastic bits around the vents, using some extra long straws to extend these to te shell. I then used Silicone to fill any gaps in the helmet, I’ll do the same to the shell when the time comes.

For the rebreathers I used some tubing from an old carpet cleaner, cut them to length, trimed the edges, cut slots into the shell and slid them in, I’ll use glue to hold them in long term on the final build.

There has been an issue with bowing in the peak, it’s slight but I can see it so I think I’ll be making a MKII soon. Check the pics and let me know what you guys think.

Resin’d up. Last prep stage.

I still think this is great for my first time doing any of this stuff.

'Till next time…

Wow. Looks great!

You’re really looking good there! I know things can get rough (esp. when putting the paper together) but the results are very rewarding!

I’m hoping to have a full armor set by the time of the release, maybe sooner, so if you need to brainstorm or anything you’re welcome to drop a note.

Hey
Thanks dude, yeah I primed the outside today and its looking alot better now that it’s not just dried resin.

Maybe you can help.
I want to do it MC Green but for it to e MC green it has to be perfect, but i’m not sure about the colours. I really want to ace the master chiefs colouring but my motorbike is blue (with a little black) but blue looks -Yoink- fot the MC helmet.

Just that now i’m getting to that point soon I need to make up my mind.

What armor you building, Halo 4 armour or based of a halo reach variant?? let me know mate, i’m thinking about making a whole suit but dont think I have the will power (for now)…

For MC’s color, I would pick up a sage color spray paint.

Not knowing what country you’re in, I can’t really recommend a brand but for the main color you may want to look into an army color sage for your primary and a deeper, almost forest green for a trim color. Black works too.

Right now I’m working on a spartan 3 armor set with mrk6 influence. I’ll post some picks to you of my finished helmet in a bit.

Thanks for the Colour info now I have a starting block for the research.

Im from the UK so branding would be different (assuming your in the US).

Now that would be awsome, something completly unique, I cant wait wo see it.

Yup, I’m in the US but I’m happy to lend a helping hand.

I’ve been using EVA foam to construct the armor. It’s light and durable and easy to shape with a little heat.
The reason I mention this is that I mention this is that I saw you’re having some bowing issues on the bill. An easy solution for that is to sub a piece of foam for your supporting edge.
This can even be done inside the bill where it’s hollow so you don’t have to cut anybof the work you’ve done already.

Hey
I’m absolutley going to do that for the next build but i’m way past that stage now, thanks for the advice though mate.

Took it out today and got right up to 70 MPH without any real pulling on the peak so well happy with that.
