8 years later and people are still playing it because it was the last good Halo. H4 has been long dead and H5 is on life support with the only people still playing being pro players, streamers who get paid and people who downloaded it for free on game pass.
Reach might have not been as good as 2 or 3 (very few games in general are) but it was still lightyears ahead of 4 and 5 which is why people still play it nearly a decade later and why it is so heavily requested to be added to the MCC.
While I agree that Reach wasn’t bad, (it’s my second favourite in terms of multiplayer right after H5), you can’t just throw around statements like that. People can’t just make statistical statements like that, you have no idea what’s going on in other people’s heads, you’re just projecting your own feelings on others here.
In Halo 5 the population is just fine, it’s just the MMR that makes things really tough for good long time players such as myself. Regardless I still find games in Team Arena and all Warzone playlists quite well. In the matches I get the population consists pretty evenly of players that are new (SR 1-50) and long time players (SR +140) and a bunch that falls in the middle. Not-so-experienced players most probably find games even more easily than I do.
I personally find Reach to be more successfull in terms of social, while Halo 5 excels in competetive. In the end for me Halo 5’s gameplay is more addicting for me than Reach’s was. I have played Halo 5 actively for the whole time It’s been out and I have many many more hours clocked in 5 than Reach. Halo Reach started to become stale after 3 years but Halo 5 still does it for me quite well.

I play and (as you can see from my stats) not a pro player, would not know how to stream and my partner brought the game along with the xbox one as a Christmas present.
You assume that the population of Halo 5: Guardians is low when I have no trouble encountering other players on Xbox LIVE. I’m not even going to go into where you contradicted yourself but whilst people do play Halo: Reach still the fact remains that Halo 5: Guardians still has the bigger playerbase.
If you want to discuss reach it has its own section. If you want to discuss the h5 population (which is far higher than reach’s) use the dedicated thread linked below
