People that are complaining about Hidden Rank

… are the people that caused it to go away. If people were more respectful online the rank would remain visible. It’s funny that they are calling people crybabies and all that fun stuff. It’s pretty ironic isn’t it?

This thread is dearly not needed.

EDIT: It’s pretty ironic

It is pretty ironic, yeah. It is also justifying the whole ‘harassment’ side of the argument too

generalizations…

I won’t apologize for my higher skill level, I certainly won’t apologize about some trash talk.

I expect a 9 year old to have trouble dealing with larger than life personalities in life and over XBL… but sadly it’s mostly guys in their 20’s that have all the emotional issues.

Amen… If you believe yourself to be skilled, a " hidden" rank should not be a problem… after all stuff like the overall points system in each playlist like they do in Arena on your nametag ,will be seen by others which can tell your performance…

I don’t trash talk and never will, I think it is pointless. Yet I still want visible ranks.

Trash talk is completely fine. Not when it’s 4 random bk’s versus 4 full team 50s or in Reachs case Inheritors. It’s alright to have some trash talk here and their but when the insults turn into blatant insults or threats it’s sickening. People don’t know how to friendly trash talk anymore. “haha you guys got stomped” isn’t even the insults anymore. It’s “Hey (player name) YOUR K/D IS HORRIBLE why do you even play the game? You’re the worst player I’ve ever seen” People are disgusting on xbox live. End game trash talk is fine. When people just rank bash and stat bash it get’s annoying. I was a 45 in Halo 3 which in my book isn’t the worst player ever. According to 50’s if you couldn’t hit a 50 you were actually mentally limited. Even though 95% of 50’s were boosted. -_- I think 45 is pretty good for someone who usually doesn’t play with more than one or two people. I also didn’t go out looking for a team to help me achieve the all mighty level 50…

I remember playing social Halo 2 and people would talk trash and the other team would actually laugh and say good game. Insults weren’t that bad of a thing.

I can take an insult. I can take insults every single game. Some people can’t and I understand why. Not having visible rank makes more sense than most people think. Why give the haters the extra leverage to talk crap? Anything to stop people from being really big jerks is good in my book.

Dude, it’s online gaming. You can’t honestly expect everyone to be all polite on the internet. That’s like asking for all humans to get along, sadly, it’s not going to happen. We have a mute button and party chat for a reason.

Even in Reach’s system, some people are still jerks about rank. It was the same in Halo 2/3 and even Reach, and it will be the same in Halo 4. You just have to deal with it. That’s just how some people are. They are -Yoink–bags, and your best bet is to just ignore them.

Just because you are a higher rank does not mean you should belittle others that are a lower rank or younger then you. If you are older than the 9 year old then you should be the adult in this situation and just not say anything. How does a visible rank benefit you in any way other than to give you bragging rights. Its seems here most of the people who want it to return just want it to return so they can once again belittle others other wise what other logical reason is there that it needs to be visible. Unlike reachs broken progression system and no visible rank even to yourself, halo 4 will have a functioning progression system base on win/lose instead of time played and will have a rank that IS visible to you and only you. So please feel free to tell me how I should just mute them or grow a extra spine bone, because that still doesn’t give me a legit reason it needs to return.

Why should I be forced to mute players that may not be jerks and could potientially be someone I may want to hang with just so a visible rank can be put in that serves no purpose except to brag. Infact muting them also defeats the purpose of the visible rank because you can’t brag if you can’t be heard and a number or shiny medal does not phase me in the slightest.

I can.

You know why? it’s the internet.

Guess what, there’s this thing called freedom of speech. Am I a bad guy? absolutely! I don’t wear a white hat but I do enjoy talking trash and since I bought and paid for my game and XBL plus the mic I use to “Abuse” you I feel if I don’t cross any lines (racism, homophobia etc) what’s the issue?

Deal with it or keep your settings set to mute.

Well if my rank is not visible then I will have to rely on peoples k/d ratios to see if there good. Any that dosen’t have a 2.0 k/d in Halo 4 will be labeled as a bad kid. Bad kids will suck at halo and good players will still be dominant on halo. Most people on these forums are bad kids and get owned by us good players, its the way things are. Looks like k/d ratio owns all again.

Absolutely not… Nobody is perfect. I trash talk from time to time. The thing is trash talking about peoples rank and stats just get’s ridiculous. Why go looking to make people feel bad. If you win a game you have a little bit of rights to talk crap. To talk crap n stats and rank is really childish. By making hidden rank that’s less stupid things people can complain about.

> I feel if I don’t cross any lines (racism, homophobia etc) what’s the issue?

Yeah, something tells me that you rarely cross that line…

@sg1elim89, here we are again with the K/D. K/D does not determine whether or not a player is good or not. Just the fact that you think so makes you an ignorant person. But I can play that game too, anyone with less than a 2.5 K/D in Reach is trash.

where did they confirm hidden rankings?

The problem is that you seem to be unable to treat other human beings with the respect that they deserve, and for that I pity you.

Just because this is the internet and we have freedom of speech does not give you or anybody else the right to insult or belittle other people.

Yea me too. I “encountered” the same problems…

I never really understood the obsession over a visible ranking system a la 1-50.

First of all it was cheated to death. Which meant that far too many of the 40’s/50’s you encountered had a 20’s skill level…and a glitched number behind their name. Big woop for them and their e-penisses, but they still didn’t have the actual “skill”.

Secondly: if you consider yourself to be skillful, you would show that with your actions. Not a number. In fact, a number or a named rank should make 0 difference. I understand the desire for a treat for your performance…but a number or a different shiney emblem or a higher named rank…in the end: it’s all the same thing.

Third: if you are really skilled, you would have no problem ranking up in a system like Reach’ none the less. And sure: there will be folks who grinded their way there…but if you’re the one with the actual skill you’d still kick their @$$es and can get your fun out of showing who really is the “boss”…

Lastly: visible or invisible…it really doesn’t matter. As long as the system matches you with good opponents, and you yourself perform well you showed off your skill more than having an obsession over a number that makes up the size of your e–Yoink-.

Besides; competativeness doesn’t come from seeing if somebody is a 44 and you being a 45. Competativeness has nothing to do with a number behind your name. Competativeness is a mindset. It’s the will to win, no matter what. No matter what ranking system, be it visible or invisible.
And if you can’t get that into your heads, you should ask yourself this:
Are you really competative, or just obsessed with earning badges?
