People. Plug in a mic!

Halo used to be filled with lobbies of people with mics.
Now its just quite.
Anyone else miss the days where everyone had a mic?
I know I do.

Quiet?
But yeah I do wish more people had mics.

Quite what?

No. There are a plethora of ways to obtain the same information some stranger is yelling at me. I can avoid the toxic xbox live community and get all the information that tryhard kid is screaming at me? Why bother with a mic?

This is COD tho. Halo has always had a friendlier online presence.

That’s a lie and you know it.

You know, last Friday I thought “Hey, this time in Warzone I’ll use my Mic to co-ordinate with however jumps on”

Lo and behold, first Warzone game I enter has an underage kid talking to his dad, and only moments later after the kid started talking to his dad, with mic on, a team mate starts voice harassing the kid. It wasn’t only rude things that were traded between them, yeah the kid jumped on the harass train as well, but vulgar and outright disgusting things were flung around.

Last time in Reach I intervened I got a picture over XBL of four men mooning me.

I put the Mic down.
First person to talk got harassed, it could very well have been me instead.

I would if majority of people would mute their mics when their mums are vacuuming the house…

I never hear a peep. Since then, I stopped using my headset.

I would, except that the only way I can talk is through the party app/kinect, because the controller I’m using doesn’t have a port for the standard Xbox mic. Also, I don’t think anyone wants to hear someone speak through a kinect.

I almost always use my headset and give call outs whether people reply or not. If I’m playing in a group we stick to party chat but if I’m playing solo I go mic and if anyone talks back I invite them to party up for the next match

People don’t talk In this game bc of that one time some 14 year old told them they -Yoinked!- their mom.

Then people like me that want to win, so I make call outs are punished for it.

You dang kids ruined it for everyone!!! /s

Nobody has ever abused me or told me they -Yoinked!- my mum, and I talk all the time.

I was being sarcastic…

The spartan chatter gives me pretty much all the information I need anyway, why bother with crappy players?

I use a mic, but I keep it muted unless it is something really really important. Like informing a small child why he got a triple kill in SWAT with only one BR burst.

Ah, my bad. I should have been able to tell by the tone of your voice.

I don’t want to because most of the time its just annoying people screaming with their music all the way up.

Well, I never try hard. I enjoy the casul side of Halo.

I can relate to both of these.
On the one hand, you have the over-talkative, -Yoink- talkers who just like to either hear themselves talk or enjoy belittling everyone on their team. These folks can be a pain in the -Yoink- to deal with short of doing the obvious and turning off your mic. However, I’ve come to use that to find humor in the game. Let them bad mouth me for having only 4 kills and 11 deaths, but when the match ends ten minutes later, and I’m in third place and guy doing all the talking is in 4th with a worse K/D than me. I can gloat till the sun sets!

However I also know the issue of being the ONLY one making call-outs in a team game type like Warzone where things like that actually matter and could tip the fight in my teams favor only to hear bone chilling silence. Not even static from another mic, just dead air all around me. Its not only annoying but a bit pointless when you think about how MOST game systems these days come with headsets just for that. Shame in the case of Halo 5 its so underutilized.
