People, let's compromise.

Here it goes again, I know. I’m sorry that it’s another one of these threads but I would really like to hear what you guys think.

My proposal:

It’s safe to say that 343i will be using another XP based ranking system like Reach. However, what would you guys think about having separate ranked and social playlists?

Before you discredit it and say “that’s what Halo 3 did,” please think about what I’m saying.

-The ranked playlist and your XP level aren’t related at all. It’s not like H3 where you’d have to be a 35, 40, 45, or 50.
-Your skill-based rank wouldn’t affect what you were able to unlock.
-You would never, ever have to touch it. It’s only there for the people who would like to use it.

What I think would be best is if it was like arena where it was completely separate, but fix the level system. The Arena actually isn’t all that flawed anymore, now that it’s W/L. However, it seems like some people are still skeptical because of the whole iron, bronze, silver, gold, and onyx theme.

Anyways… Let me know what you guys think.

Suggestions? Just want to see what would be the best of both worlds.

Thanks

I don’t think there’s any legitimate reason why there can’t be a ranking system like that.

Rank should be in every playlist, so we get matched with similarly skilled players. WHICH IS WHAT A RANKING SYSTEM IS MEANT TO BE FOR!

First off, the trueskill has been working behind the scenes in Reach and Halo 3 social playlists since they day those games came out. So you already have what you want.

And second, would you please explain to me the problem of having a seperate ranked playlist that doesn’t limit your EXP ranking up?

There is no problem, but the “behind the scenes” system was like no system at all in reach, so a ranking system should be available in all playlists to help match with similarly skilled people.

However; it didn’t work. At all in

As long as by social you mean the playlists than could never give accurate results of skill(action sack, infection, griffball, etc). then yes. However If you want there to be all the same gametypes in both social and competiteve, with no difference other than one has a rank and the other one doesn’t then no. There would be absolutely no point.

Nothing will stop a casual player from playing ranked, or a ranked player from play social. It also wouldn’t give any reason to play social over ranked, as in social you couldn’t get matched with those close to your skill, making most games either an instant win or instant lose.

No, the 2 groups of playlists have to have some pretty distinct differences to even begin to work.

343 already said there are 2 ranking systems, credits like in reach, and a new one based off a mix and match of old ones.

I wouldn’t necessarily be playing a whole lot of social so I might not be the person to say, but back in Halo 2 I thought it was pretty accurate.

There was:

-Team Training: unranked slayer variants
-Action Sack: crazy game types
-Rumble pit or some sort of FFA

Then of course you can throw in infected, grifball, BTB/Invasion, etc.

I’m sure that they (343) would take community input for social playlists if that was the case.

That would be pretty cool. Do you happen to have a link for that?

Did anybody else see this, either?

Halo reach true skill ranking system isn’t something you should adorn proudly. It works but it isn’t great.

Look there is a ranking system in Halo reach. It is just invisible. After you play a game you sometimes get a score by your name 100 is avrage. If you score that your invisible rank stays the same if it is more it goes up if less it goes down. The system is continously trying to match you with people around the same rank in every playlist. It does not allways work though. There is no point to displaying it.
