Penalty for leaving

If one or more teammates leave, your two options are staying just to lose and get your stats effed up OR you can leave and get banned from arena for 30 minutes. In normal circumstances where you’re the first to quit, okay. Fine the 30 min ban is reasonable. But 343 has to implement a filter system where they differentiate who is quitting because they suck and who is quitting cuz their stats are getting wrecked and it’s not their fault.

Sure. 343 can preach “well that just encourages people to party up and play together” but besides the invite button, what have they done to promote this? Unlike, for example Modern warfare 2 (the last cod game I played), you can’t stay in the lobby if you found a solid team and play with those players next match. There’s no in-game way to search for players who want to party up. I realize not many games do this either but they also don’t put half hour bans on people who are tired of getting raped and it’s not their fault.

I’ve stated my issue and offered a solution. And I know there have been previous posts on this. Yet still nothing has changed.

You may ask well how does 343 define who leaves cuz they suck or who leaves cuz their team quit. I don’t have these answers but 343 needs to take out the ban until they can differentiate to two. Otherwise countless undeserving players are gonna get banned.

And before you guys ask, if I’m faced against a team that had half its players quit, I show mercy. Unless its slayer, I won’t find and kill players hiding until the game is over. What else are they gonna do?

I think a “vote to surrender” option could benefit this game greatly.

EDIT:
More specifically, a vote to surrender option that doesn’t become available until someone on your team quits and then everyone must vote “yes” for it to go through. That way people can’t just vote to surrender every time they get their butts kicked, and the person who quits still has to deal with the banhammer. It’s more for 1v4 type situations.

@Hemlach - I think the vote idea is pretty good. Would be interesting to see how it would actually play out in a real match.

@TheIronMitten - I feel your pain. I almost always play solo, and it’s getting harder to play any Arena matches where at least one side doesn’t have a teammate that bails out. In the end, I just grit it out. But it’s damn hard playing an objective game like CTF or Strongholds down a player.

Ban related discussion goes in the ban thread. It welcomes you, it welcomes all. Sing your sorrows to the ban thread and find absolution.

Or you accept it and do that … free Perfection to everyone.

Wow!!! That’s amazing! You’re a superstar for gutting it out like that. Mega props to you!

I think the banhammer needs to be lifted all together. ItS annoying when I cannot tell the difference between disconnects and quiting. As far as stats go they are just stats. If people really still care about others stats and think it’s a complete inside to how a player is then that is just stupid. I would rather have a poor stated player with a mic making callouts than a state monster that doesn’t have a mic. When it happens to me I just stay in the game. You lose oh well, you win than sweet. Either way your moving on to the next match anyway.

Because a disconnect and a quit do the same thing at the end of the day. Someone left, and the team is now a man down.

And if you try to excuse disconnections, that will be immediately and easily abused. “I’m losing badly, so oops, accidentally pulled my Ethernet cable!”

Back in MCC there used to be no penalty for quitting. So people kept quitting games early so they can run into the worst players and stomp them.

Cuz it’s clearly worked so far. Obviously 343 doesn’t look at that thread or I wouldn’t be posting this here.

So in order to complain about the consequences of breaking the rules, you intentionally break more rules…

I agree, something needs to be done to fix the system. As others have mentioned, it can be difficult to tell if you got kicked out of a match because of Halo’s servers or because of your own internet at home acting up. I swear, the game seems to have a million different ways of telling me that their servers are wonky.

(Also, I believe that the ban thread is only a place to talk about the reasons why you, personally, were banned. I don’t think it’s meant for discussion of the “banhammer” in general, or match disconnects.)

The leave system is so messed up. I have 2-4 people leaving and joining almost every game. What’s worse is that people seem to have figured out how to fool the ban system so they don’t get penalized as readily. I think a few things need to change:

  1. Voting system. Lots of people seem to quit just to reroll the map/gametype.
  2. Quitter flag. Quitters should only play with quitter; simple as that. Match quitters with other quitters based on their severity of quitting.
  3. Warning system. A message like “You have quit repeatedly. Cease this behavior or face our UBER banhammmer.”

Please use the ban thread to discuss this topic, thanks.
