I know that many people are a bit dubious about Pelicans in multiplayer but I really think it needs to be done. Okay, I’m not sure how, but loads of games have added fan-requested elements in unpredictable ways that just really worked.
The thing is that the flyable Pelican is a brilliant move by 343. It should have been done a long time ago and I’m very grateful for it. However, the Pelican level is very underwhelming and it basically is just laser shooting phantoms with nothing else. When you glitch it into reclaimer you see the potential.
I think it would be really neat in multiplayer and, while I don’t know how to properly handle such a feat, surely 343 the professional game designers can.
So here’s my question: is it possible for the Pelican to be DLC? I mean, it’s already in the game as flyable so it shouldn’t be that hard?
Or should we settle for DLC that is nothing more than 3 maps a pack?
They add Pelicans into DLC, what game modes would support it? How large would the map have to be to even make it worthwhile?
I would love to see Pelicans, Hornets, Falcons in here but given the current map sizes, it wouldn’t work. I could see the Hornet or Falcon working wonderfully on objective based games though.

I just don’t think this approach is good enough quite frankly.
It should be up to the developers to make it work. They should amaze us with what they can do.
We all (mostly) think Pelicans are a good idea to have in multiplayer. We don’t know how to handle them but we are not game developers so how would we?
The second guy still has a point. Sure, the devs could “amaze us” or something the fact still remains that the Pelican is a massive vehicle meant for long distances and, as has been stated, none of the current maps would be able to support it in a fun/efficient way. I don’t see why they can’t let us use it in Spartan Ops though.
343 does need to do something original, it would help to push people’s minds away from the Halo belongs to Bungie mentality that is so damn prevalent on these forums. Aside from that, what sort of game mode do you envision the Pelican being useful for?
Unless we get a forge world sized map, the pelican won’t very useful with the maps we have now in multiplayer (and I don’t think we need any more large maps). It’d be awesome for a SpOps mission though.

Games made by Bungie:
Halo CE
Halo 2
Halo 3
Halo 3 odst
Halo Wars
Halo Reach
Games made by 343i:
Halo CEA
Halo 4
Halo belonging to Bungie isnt a mentality, its a fact. Bungie is what made Halo exist, and now 343i is trying (and failing) to take Bungie’s fire.

Halo Wars was made by Ensemble Studios, but that aside, Bungie gave up their creation Halo, stating that they wanted to move onto other things. 343 didn’t try to take anything that Bungie didnt give up. Yes, everyone is aware that Bungie created Halo, but people need to accept that Halo is now being run by 343 & their thoughts on Halo may be different that Bungies’
I would love to see some UNSC fliers in Halo 4 outside of the campaign and I think I speak for the majority when I say that. With Halo 3 and Reach the Hornet and Falcon really opened up new possibilities, especially in objective games, and nicely counterbalanced the Banshee, the shark of the skies.
It’d be really great to have some flying sections in upcoming Spartan Ops - Hornet or Falcon would both be great but Pelicans are more likely since the model and code already exist in Halo 4 - but what I’m really crossing my fingers for is flier support in an upcoming DLC pack, and possibly an expanded Forge World which would not only supply us with the “missing vehicles” of Halo (Hornet, Falcon, Troop Hog, Revenant, Prowler, AA Wraith, who’s with me?!) but give us the expanded game space to build our own kick–Yoink- custom game maps and gametypes.
Considering so much of Halo 4 has been a step backwards from Halo 3 and Reach, it’d be great for 343 to reintroduce these features and functionality, and finally deliver on this “sandbox” I keep hearing about.

Stopped reading there.
TELL ME ABOUT THAT GLITCH NOW!!1
I don’t think they will be in War Game, but I can see them used effectivly in SOps.
Playing Shutdown 4 player coop, you can clearly see that the Pelican was designed for 4 players, but there is really only 1 effective seat and that is player 1. The level isn’t throwing enough ai at the players for all the seats to be effective, so I think it is safe to assume the possibility of a Sops missison with enough ai, so that all 4 players can use all 4 seats as intended.
I’ve been waiting for a long time to see space battles a la Battlefront II in Halo matchmaking. Just imagine playing a few rounds of dominion on outer space. drools
