I’ve heard a lot of complaints about the Pelican in Halo 4, and I have to ask, where have you seen it? Would someone be so kind as to link me a picture of the Pelican?
I haven’t heard any complaints.
I too, have not heard any.
There is a Pelican that appears at the end of the 5th SpOps mission: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9jDOnLgnY4&feature=channel&list=UL#t=9m13s
I’ve seen a complaint thread about it, but honestly there aren’t that many.
Unfortunately I have heard tons of complaints it’s something to do with the cockpit and how big it is or something around the front of the pelican. The most I can say is watch some Halo 4 Spartan Ops videos, you’ll come across the pelicans there.
What is the complaint?
There aren’t many complaints yet because it hasn’t been seen much besides that brief Spartan Ops clip. But I foresee much complaining. I for one think it looks pretty janky in comparison to the original. I wish 343 would change the aesthetic of everything, or nothing. I hate this ‘pick and choose’ ideality where the AR, Ghost, Banshee, etc are exactly the same and other things are redesigned.
I find that it looks awesome, especially with the guns on the side! And the double cockpit is something that I find makes this version of the Pelican seem more futuristic.
As long as it gets me there and back, I’ll take it.

Why would they give it bulbous ugly windows on the cockpit?
Gross.
In all honestly, I hate it. It looks ugly.
But I’m not gonna let something like that ruin my experience with Halo 4!
I’m just wondering what the artists were thinking…
I think it looks just nasty. Not only does it look bad aesthetically but it just doesn’t look like a believable aircraft. It has those tiny little thrusters on the bottom corners of the fuselage… I mean just look at them. How could an aircraft have them there, how could that be useful?
The original Pelican looks like a solid well-designed workhorse of an aircraft. It looks believable and good looking too. The new Pelican, to me anyway, looks like a cartoony ugly lump of an aircraft based loosely on the original Pelican.
Not sure why they felt the Pelican needed an overhaul, especially considering how bad this new one looks with its Hind cockpit, extra air intakes and extra engines and thrusters all over it.
Yuck.

It kind of looks like a Russian Mil Mi-24 “Hind” to me. It’s different and new, and from the looks of it, the cockpit canopy is more supporting of having two pilot seats than the older models of pelicans.
But if you really want to know what the Artists were thinking:
“We need to set us a part from Bungie’s Artists to show we’re not copying Bungie’s work, but we also need it to look similar to Bungie’s pelican so not to completely confused the players.”

Makes sense, but it still totally confused me still.
Besides, the old pelican could fit two pilots already, remember?
Heck, I wouldn’t mind if the artist made something totally new … I just don’t like the look of it period, but whatever!

You’re thinking like it’s only used in atmo, the Pelican isn’t really an aircraft, it’s a SPACE Craft that’s designed to go both in space and atmo, those thrusters can be used as a way to move around in zero gravity environments like Space.
> Besides, the old pelican could fit two pilots already, remember?
Yes, but the canopy isn’t the best design for having two pilots in a straight line, the back pilot would have to look at the other pilot’s head when he/she is trying to fly and avoiding fire from the ground or objects on the ground like trees and buildings.
> Heck, I wouldn’t mind if the artist made something totally new … I just don’t like the look of it period, but whatever!
That would be nice, but there has to be some degree in design carried over from the past to keep those of us who’ve played the first trilogy feeling like 343i is creating a new game that just so happens to also have Halo as the title. Not every one will like the new art direction, but some people do, I like the new look, but like I said, they can’t please everyone, it’s impossible.

Absolutely.

Perhaps but they are clearly shown activated in atmosphere. I just can’t imagine a military design for an aircraft that relies on smaller outrigger thrusters, it seems almost like an afterthought to me. “Chuck some tiny thrusters on there”.
We’ve all seen Pelicans flying in space before and there was no need for such a type of thrusters. Maneuvering in space doesn’t require such large blazing thrusters and maneuvering thrusters would be required on all surfaces of a spacecraft, not just the bottom of the fuselage.
Not only that but think how the thrusters would actually work, they would need fuel lines and motors and all sorts of mechanisms housing the thruster and connecting it to the fuel tanks… what I’m getting at is that adding thrusters at those points on the Pelican would be an engineering nightmare. So not only do they not make sense practically or look good but they also don’t make mechanical sense either.
The new Pelican is a dog. Its perhaps the worst example of 343i and their new artistic direction.

Really? I can, hell if the thing flies like a rock, and is meant to be a VTOL like aircraft/space craft, I would give it small thrusters. Hell, pelicans always had small thrusters on them, but instead of being notice able on the bottom of the craft, they was on the larger thrusters on the wings.
