Pelican Gunship might be in MM!

Pelicans. We’ve wanted to be able to drive them since the days when Combat was still Evolving. Many have said “NO! THEY WOULD SUCK IN MULTIPLAYER”, which is an argument that not only makes me want to smack whoever said it, but I will also be addressing it later in this post, as well as the possibility of it being flyable in the first place.

There’s a new type of Pelican in town, and when I saw it I was overjoyed. Why? Because it adds more “evidence”, for lack of a better word, to my theory concerning Pelicans. Think of it this way: the Pelican Gunship has a crew of 4. One driving, one shooting the gun on top, and two manning the turrets in the back. Spartan Ops is made specifically for a team of 4 people.

Now, pretend that you’re one of the developers of Spartan Ops for a moment. The Pelican Gunship can hold 4 people and have them all do something beneficial for the team. You’re developing a game mode that just so happens to be built specifically with 4 player teams in mind. The fans have been asking to be able to use a Pelican for 11 years. Does it make sense to even consider not allowing the players to use one in at least one mission?

As I said earlier, if the gunship was to be included it could likely only hold 4 people. This would take a a good chunk of your team to use, but not so much that it’s just a flying Killtacular. The two turrets likely are just slightly more effective then those of the Falcon, which has already proven to be balance-able. The only difference from the Falcon is the gun on top, which looks pretty powerful if you ask me. This gun would only be usable in dogfights or when the Pelican is pointed at the ground, thus helping to balance it. Sounds like it would work pretty well to me.

Transport Falcon does the same job, but with less space taken up and less health/cover.

You didn’t read the post did you? The Pelican Gunship, which has officially been confirmed, it not a transport vehicle.

Its a very interesting looking Pelican, it looks like the Transport model on steroids imo, and I love the shade of green it has. I do believe I saw some footage of 2 Pelican Gunships escorting a Pelican Transport within Spartan Ops, so OP your theory may indeed come true. It would be quite epic to finally get to experience what it is like within a Pelican that is truely outfitted for war :).

I would love to finally be able to fly one :}

I have been one of the people who wanted to fly a drop ship since CE. But I think the reason why you wont be in one at least in competitive multiplayer is because of size and crew capacity.
Now yes the Gunship doesn’t have the 10 plus capacity of the transport Pelican but even with 4 seats that is half your team in BTB.
Even with capacity out of the way large maps like Blood Gulch the vehicle itself is still a little to big. I mean they’re like the size of 2 scorpion tanks put together.
I’m not trying to say I’d hate having them in or I wouldn’t but I just don’t think they fit the multiplayer sandbox as it is now. If the future Halo games decided to push the multiplayer cap from a measly 16 to 32 or more with much larger maps, then it would play out better in multiplayer.

It would be interesting to fly one within Spartan Ops I believe, that would make it more compatible than putting something like a Pelican in matchmaking, there simply to large in my opinion. It would be cool if your going into a extremely active battlefield, pilot ends up being killed, you and your friends are forced to take over some on the guns and one in the cockpit having to out manuever Phantoms, and the like. This subject makes me curious to see what exactly Forerunners will have vehicle wise lol.

A pelican for transport would be cool if the game supported 16vs. 16 players (Which is something I’ve always wished for in the Halo Franchise.)

But why add a pelican for transport when Halo 3 had a Transport Hog?

Valid reasons, but I’ll go ahead and disagree. If 343i can design the maps right then ti could be a very nice addition to the sandbox. Wide open spaces like Blood Gulch would not be good for this Pelican as the gun on top would be too OP. But maps that are similar to Danger Canyon and Infinity would be good maps for it.

Also, there are cons to having a fully occupied Pelican on your team, just like any other vehicle with more then one seat. You can either use half your team and have a pretty powerful vehicle, or keep a few members and have a less powerful Pelican, just like the Falcon in Reach.

There’s no reason that Pelicans and Phantoms shouldn’t be available in Custom Games and Forge.

Because they wouldn’t be added for transport.

The pelican is kind of bloated looking, and the turret on top is a little much IMO, but if they thinned it a little and took that turret off it would look pretty sweet.

Considering what I read about a certain fan-favorite gamemode, I wouldn’t doubt them giving us a flyable pelican in a Spartan Ops mission or even in MM.

This is my first time hearing of this awesome Pelican, but I do have a question.

Can I or can I not, pick up the flag or bomb carrier?

I’m sorry if this was said in the post…I’m at work and can’t read the whole post.

I feel it would be neat to have them in Forge, but only as Scenery objects  similiar to Relic’s Locust Dropship, Sandtraps Locust and Phantom, and Valhallas Pelican. They could be used efficiently to create more of a theme for maps, was something I wish Reach had added to its Scenery.

Its just speculation at the moment, but the hope for it is that it is usable in some form in Campaign, Spartans Ops, or such. Not to sure on how Pelicans could function in Matchmaking though, since its all built around a simulation, not sure if they would let them drop you into battle :P.

No one knows, it’s not even confirmed to be flyable.

I think it would all depend on other vehicles and weapons on the map as well as the damage resistance of a pelican, because an open map could turn out to be a weakness to a pelican. They would be a massive target for something like the Guass Hog, Scorpion, Spartan Laser and maybe even the Rail gun.

Yep having half the team cooped up on one vehicle could be a big problem for the team. But to this point the max capacity for any vehicle in multiplayer (other than the Scorpion in CE) has been 3.
Again not saying it shouldn’t be done but I’d prefer it in a future Halo with a higher player count.

I’d like to see it in MM and Spartan ops, but I see it more likely a possibility in Spartan ops. Who knows what kind of surprises they have for us?

You could fly a pelican and phantom in reaches SP. so all this hype about “finally being able to fly one” is kind of not needed. I don’t think there would be anyway in hell you could have it in MP. but they might let you fly it in spartan ops.
