Pelican Drivable IN multiplayer

Well I’ve been thinking what would it be like to drive a Pelican in MP.So I thought that there should be a game type called Drop Off:You would spawn in the passenger of a Pelican and 2 people will be (randomly)picked from your team to drive and to gun the pelican. They would drop you off in the map and you will kill the people on the map (like Team Slayer).
If you are driving the Pelican you would be fighting off the other team’s air vehicles and the gunner does the same they are also allowed to help you on the ground so you have air support. This would be a separate game type for certain maps. Thanks for reading let me know what you think in the comments.

The Pelican is always a nice thing to see in campaign when your fighting the Covenant and/or don’t want to walk anymore, but its inclusion in multiplayer is considerably unnecessary.

Given that even a Banshee can easily dispatch these lumbering dropships with just a couple strafing runs, they would be too unwieldy and accident prone for your typical player. Not to mention that it would be too large to properly use in even the biggest of maps, and that your only proper defense against enemy aircraft and infantry is a simple machine gun with only a 180 degree view of the aft section on.

The Falcon and Hornet are just fine at their roles as the Human aircraft in multiplayer.

First of all,I said it’s a separate game type for certain maps.

Bungie considered a similar thing for a Sabre multiplayer map where you get to fight in starfighters similar to the Reach campaign mission Long Night of Solace. However, your suggestion can be simply created in a custom game with more deadly and maneuverable aircraft.

Sorry, custom game forge FF those are possible but MM nope. too many people would get angry at it. what i did find funny though is in reach, a lead bungiee employee said “no one wants to fly pelicans so we didnt put one in the SP” and all the people on the forums, or sheeple said “ya he is right no one would want it” but a lower bungie employee puts the easter egg in secretly and now people love using it. just goes to show not everything said on the forum people know because mostly they are the minorites but in the the majorites would be for it. so i think surveys need to be given out on the game rather then on the forum.

I would like to see Pelicans and other dropships make it into matchmaking, though the maps they would appear on would need to be pretty big.

The community in general has changed. A drivable pelican in MP? Really? That sounds so ridiculous and the farthest thing from Halo I have ever read. It’s rare I actually see a good idea on here.

looks at forum posts from the pre-Halo 2 days in 2003

You must be new. :stuck_out_tongue:

Only for huge BTBs, like 32 player games.

i like the idea of a pelican since i was able to do it in Halo Custom Edition. i just dont see a gametype in MM that could make that blanced but i can see it being fun in FF, Forge, Forgeable FF, CG, and would make great for theatre for machinima. i know RVB would have liked it alot if they had it instead of having to cutscene it in the originals

This. But if it isn’t possible I can see it in forge or customs.

Hence the epic, large scale battles promised in Halo 4? Or at least the vast scenery we’ll see.

As a Halo nerd, I see the excitement to this prospect. Looking at it from a gameplay perspective, though, there are a lot of ways it could negatively impact gameplay. I’d love the idea of 16v16 fights with pelicans dropping troops, etc., but that just isn’t feasible. More than likely, there will be one air unit per faction.

I see your desire for this addition, OP, and I’m with you in the sense that if they could implement the pelican properly, I’d be crazy-excited. I just wouldn’t count on it happening.

Pelicans could serve to be very useful, but it would have to be a team vehicle. I could imagine the pelican being basically an aerial elephant where it would serve as a mobile spawnpoint in large warzone-type battles. People would spawn inside and also jetpacks would spawn inside the cargo portion of the pelican where soldiers ride. (If there is no return of AA’s they should at least have a jet pack or parachute type equipment.) It would have a forward mounted machine gun to be controlled by the driver and a rear machine gun to be used by a passenger. One new ability could be for a driver to signal teammates within the pelican to switch spots or vice-versa, so they could seamlessly change positions and the pelican wouldn’t have the same driver for the whole match (assuming it can last that long.). Of course the person they were signaling would also have to agree to switch, but then they would switch at the same time if they both agreed.

This driver-switching system and spawn system could also work for the phantom and the scarab should 343 find it suitable to include these vehicles in matchmaking as well and the weapon systems would correspond with that vehicle.

There’d be a certain amount of risk to it. It would be good for dropping more than two people off somewhere important, but at the same time, could be a flying Overkill or higher for anyone with the right firepower.

It’d be pretty cool to have in Invasion, especially if it served as a mobile spawn platform.

No thanks, I see no reason to have a Pelican in any multiplayer game-type. It’s just not needed, Halo will probably never have more than 16 players in a game so needing such a large vehicle is pointless. The only reason everyone says they want one is simply because you can’t have one. Oh and I don’t think you can drive an aircraft, I think you mean pilot.
