As an avid level designer, this map makes me hang my head in absolute disgust. It is literally on par quality wise with maps forged by newcomers. I’m not trying to put anyone down here, but it sure as hell doesn’t strike me as a map designed by a professional level designer, let alone some one the least bit familiar with level design fundamentals. When I first heard the description, about how it’s a designed for long range encounters that favor precision weapons, I thought it’d be pretty cool. What I figured it would feature in its design would be NICHE long range sight lines bisecting the map in INTERESTING ways, lending itself to players that would learn how to work such sight lines. NOPE! What the map features instead is ONE DISTINCT POWER POSITION. Not only that, but every path leading to that position are LOOOOOOOOOONG EXPOSED DEATH FIELDS. And to top it off, this position has a commanding sight line to the sniper spawn and has rockets spawning right next to it.
Let me just ask, WHAT IN SAM HELL WERE YOU THINKING WITH THIS ONE? I don’t mind playing maps of this quality when some one new to forge puts one on in my forge custom lobbies because I run those to help people test their maps and learn how to design better. My forge lobbies are both an educational and casual gaming experience. At least when a forger puts on a low quality map, myself and other more seasoned designers can help them refine the map over time. With this, its simply out of the question as it’s technically a developer map.
On a positive note, it’s nice to see the forge pieces we’ll be working with. Everything looks clean and well put together, and it’s nice that we finally have subtle contrasting pieces we can use so the map isn’t a monotone sea of gray or white. All that said though, please for the love of god, don’t put this map into match making when the game ships.

I dunno man, the other maps at least don’t make me rage. They’re not good, but I wouldn’t consider them actually bad. Pegasus though… I was about ready to put my controller through the TV. Not a good start to my morning.
To be fair, I made an equally bad map once that got into MM, so I suppose I shouldn’t be so harsh…

i don’t think you should be so SELECTive but no i would argue that all 4 maps are pretty poorly designed.

Honestly though, I wouldn’t be so judgmental of the map if it wasn’t a dev map. No, wait, I’d still be… I wouldn’t be so judgmental if it wasn’t in match making. Maybe I’ve got too high of standards.
On an off note, why did they have to name the other map Orion? It’s not so much them taking one of my map names, it’s that it was a map featured in MM for the duration of the Proving Grounds playlist. People already associate that name with another map.

yes it seems like 343 have embraced speedrunners, but not so much people like you, uno, aPK, solo, ladnil, salot, waldo, deathstar, seven oh three etc. though i don’t know how active any of you guys are anymore tbh. i was usually the other new zealander in waldos games
I personally like Pegasus, although all of the problems with that map you pointed out are true. And it’s not like I have any map making experience or anything, so I wouldn’t be one to talk.
This is by far the best map i have ever seen 343 do. This is what old school halo used to be about, battling for that dominate position on the map. When you have too many exits and cover it becomes a game of cat and mouse, this map changes that by having choke points that makes the player think on how to handle a potential encounter. The rockets in this map are in a perfect spot i dont get why people are complaining they’re overpowered. It’s a rocket launcher it is suppose to be the most powerful projectile in the game…

tbh, i think it is a good map. My first game on it was a lot of fun. Both teams were fighting over the rocket launcher, which was on a bridge if i am correct. Means going to get, you risk being shot.
In a close game, it’s not as bad as you make it out to be. I will say though that it’s one of the worst maps I’ve ever seen for the losing team, because the dominating team gets to cover and high ground while the respawning losing team spawns in low, open areas, which is a HUGE no-no in any FPS.
Op have you seen truth. Aside from the structures that map has barely any cover. Of course I still have to play Pegasus, but I think cover isn’t a forte of 343’s.

disagree wholeheartedly. I love Eden and Empire is decent enough. Wouldn’t lose any sleep if truth and regret didn’t make it though.
The map has potential guys, don’t get me wrong… It’s just in its current state, it’s no good. The lack of viable flanking routes to the red fortress (because they’re all super exposed) is what breaks the map.
My only issue with the map dissipates if everyone didn’t spawn with precision weapons as good as the BR.
Put the Ranged weapons at low lying areas of the map, so that those who do manage to take control of the top have to leave safety to restock ammo, then have to trek back through those dangerous areas to resume control.
As long as everyone starts with BR, those types of dynamics are impossible to design into the maps.
IMO Pegasus is one of the better maps, but is hampered by weapon layout and BR starts. Give everyone pistols instead, and you’ll have to be VERY skilled to hold the top without leaving.
