PC updated HW2 now can't play - Different Version?

I launched Halo Wars 2 today (Jan 28th 2019) and the game launched but stopped at the launch screen and said “There’s an updated needed to be installed” and I couldn’t get passed it without clicking “Ok”. So I clicked “Ok” and it took my to the Microsoft Store where it automatically started updating the game. It was about a 10GB update. Afterwhich I launched the game and I wasn’t able to join any of my friends lobbies. It said “You cannot join because the party leader has different version of the game”. I tried several people, all of which are on Xbox, and I wasn’t able to join their lobby. Other PC players did update too, and I can only join and play with other pc players. Xbox seems like that didnt have an update. Thats where the problem is, pc version is “newer” than xbox now. Anyone else have this issue or know anything more about it?

Happening the same to me, but, I didn’t even see the update, so, like you, I can’t join PC lobbies, the error of the different game version pops out, you’re not alone on this error at least

Hey OP, details of the new update have just came out now and part of the new update attempts to fix some desync issues in multiplayer. Part of this means that you’ll only be able to play with those who have the most up to date version of the game. The Xbox update is due to go out tomorrow I believe. Yea Im having the same problem except Me and my friend both have the game on pc. Its just I got the update and he didn’t and we cant play with each other idk why hes not getting it if he has it on the pc just like me and can someone please explain.

Yeah my friend and I are having the exact same issue with our Halo Wars 2 PC installation:

  • Game says it needs an update. - Windows store app “check for updates” doesn’t reveal any Halo Wars 2 updates. - Uninstalled Halo Wars 2 - Re-installing Halo Wars 2 fails with error Code: 0x80072F8F
