PC settings I hope for.

While It’s great all the options they’ve already decided to implement in MCC on PC, when Infinite comes I hope they add some more options for those used to PC shooters.

For me personally the options I’d most like to see are crosshair customization, HUD element position changing, and keyboard vehicle steering as choices.

Crosshair customization is a pretty simple one, the ability to change, color, shape, and size at the crosshair. Whether this is done by in-game settings (like with Counter-Strike or Overwatch) or with custom image files like what got added in Dirty Bomb (a game that had the same ui designer working on it as MCC PC’s menus) where you could put a png of a certain size in a given folder and that would be your static reticle. Using these options (especially the second method) could end up having the downside of losing some of indicators the crosshair gives (red reticle, head indicator dot) but I feel many would personally choose ( especially on mouse) to live without these in exchange for for a cleaner and more precise sight picture.

With the HUD, some PC games allow full customization (like TF2), but for Halo all a really want is to be able to adjust where on my screen the existing elements go. The most simple version of this is letting you rotate what corners your ammo count and weapon type, grenade count and type, and radar are in (for example if your used to games having your radar in a top corner rather than a bottom corner). And hey, if they feel like it a color option would be cool too for accessibility (colorblindness etc.) and personal preference (purple/green for classic Elite lovers, or yellow for ODST fans).

This final option I could see as a nice option, even for controller players, the ability to use your movement input to steer, rather than you look input. The standard halo method of steering with your aim (except maybe hovering vehicles with forward firing weapons like flying vehicles, the mantis, and covenant hovering vehicles) is kind of awkward for many, especially coming from other PC shooters where you often use holding A and D to turn to allow for looking around and to deal with the fact you can’t infinitely input your mouse one direction like you can a joystick. This is especially annoying with the Scorpion which uses a hybrid of both methods and eventually reverses your controls in MCC if you rotate enough, even if mid turn.

Now I’ve seen people respond to suggestions like this with “that’s how it’s always been”, but that’s why I think things like this should be options, not changes, as they help quality of life without any real change to gameplay for those from other games. This also help people who didn’t grow up with the franchise (like me) become more easily acclimated to, and fans of Halo and its gameplay.
