so now that halo is finally coming back to PC there’s an elephant in the room for people who preferred halo on the PC. One of the biggest contributors to the pc version of halo CE’s success was a huge in depth modding community to which bungie gave their blessing. It was this support of the modding community that led to the creation of the forge mode.
lately, however, devs have been slowly phasing out mod support, believing that if the game isn’t played exactly as built, it can’t be played at all. I’d like to plead with 343 not to do this to halo infinite. With infinite now coming to pc, it’s important to respect halo’s legacy on the platform, and openly welcome modders. What’s more, halo already has the perfect platform to do it with forge.
All you would need to do is add an advanced feature to forge that allows players on PC to import custom assets and code for use in forge mode to be used on custom weapons, characters, vehicles, and map templates
I’m not sure it was modders who lead to the creation of forge, if anything forge as a concept was Halo Custom Edition, but I see where you’re coming from.
I imagine there would be ‘support’ as in they would allow the community to do their thing, but at the same time I think it’ll be a hands off approach. Neither encouraging or discouraging fans from doing so.
Man there’s so much potential for modding in Halo, I hope it happens. I wonder if that’s something solely up to 343i or Microsoft itself has a say in it as well?

I’m only half okay with this idea. With this set-up modding is limited to Forge mode. Sure, we get amazing MP modes by doing so, however there are some amazing SP HCE and H2 mods out there too! Not to mention UI, sound and graphic overhauls. I want mods too, but let’s not limit them to Forge please!
Ideally 343i would give the community the modding tools to make whatever they want and let PC gamers share their creations on a browser or modding web platform (I don’t think I can share any names here). The best content without copyright infringement could than abroad on Xbox like Skyrim is already doing! Let me dream!^^

MS has a saying in it too of course. They do own the IP after all! Apparently making Cortana evil was a marketing decision from side of MS too, just as an example.

What the -Yoink-. I heard the H5 plot changed drastically part way through and I bet that’s why it was such a rushed mess. Wonder if that was MS’s doing?

I think we can solve this by simply letting campaign missions be edited in forge

Forge mode in campaign.
Good Sir, now you’re speaking my language!

I think LNG broke the news first a few years back if I remember correctly. The other major change in the last year of development on a story level was the cast of Team Osiris.
However, we still got Reed behind the story. Even without those RUMORED changes (mind you) I doubt the story was going to be good in any case. I remember people scratching their heads way before release for why they put him in charge - and I was one of them!^^’
In any case yeah, if it’s true that terrible story development 343i has to fight with now is more MS Studios doing than of the devs.

To add on, what If people were able to upload their custom assets to the game itself the same way people upload welded forge items in halo 5. Someone makes their own brand new weapon, vehicle, or map template, and you can simply save it to use in your own forge games even if you play on console
