It would likely go unused by most players since I’ve never really heard of PC gamers doing couch coop. Though having that been said, the functionality is already built into the Xbox version. I have to assume it wouldn’t be too hard to get working on PC.
i’ve used nucleus coop. it’s good if you have a beefy pc. otherwise it’s better just to play over network. it’s almost as good as native coop if you get it working right but it’s just too resource intensive. and it doesn’t work on windows store version. only steam. it works good on all, with little to no input delay, though Halo 2 Anniversary does lag when playing it. as an alternative for coop it’s main attractive is that… it exists. We need something for potato pc users like me. i do wish someone mods the game to enable coop (it’s present at least on Halo 1 and 2 If i recall correctly, i think GeneralHeed manage to get classic graphics mcc to work, but didn’t get it to link to an input device.
it wouldn’t the reason gamers don’t do couch coop is because either most games on pc don’t have it or because most games played by said PC gamer are not couch coop friendly. but i wouldn’t be surprised if something as a big as Halo did it, it could change the trend.
You know it hasn’t been dropped, right?
Hey, if it’s something that they plan on adding later that’s no problem. My problem with that is that they MIGHT add it later. Possibly, maybe. That’s the annoying bit. In my opinion, Split-Screen is far more important that all of the custom stuff that they added in seasons. Seasonal stuff was nice, but missing core features such as split-screen is frustrating. At least they’ve added CGB, and perhaps when they are done with that, maybe split-screen can finally be something discussed more on a regular basis, but who can say for sure. Now if they had Steam workshop and there was a mod that someone made that did the job perfectly for 4 players on one PC screen, then this feature really wouldn’t need to be added whatsoever. But Nucleus Coop takes a lot to set up, plus from what I’ve heard, it still has a lot of work before it’s fully complete. Plus the installation sounds kind of sketchy to me. Anyway, I hope that in the future, Split-screen will be discussed on a more often basis, and perhaps will be something that 343 might consider doing.
I’m happy to announce I just found out today that was an official mess up statement and was incorrect. It seems they left an update a day later stating they are indeed still planning PC split screen but it is low on the priority list.

Splitscreen needs to happen.
Hopefully it is added in at some point down the line. Additionally hopefully they add in crossplay campaign co-op. I’d like to be able to co-op with my friends who are still on Xbox again.
Maybe after they finish adding workshop, and the rest of the content to CGB, we might see something about it perhaps?
Ya I would have to guess it would be after we get more-full CGB support, mod support, Steam Workshop support, hopefully finished File Share & Theaters, Flood Fire Fight for ODST & Reach then we might see it around then.
Consoles have finally reached a level where they can really play along side a pc in multiplayer situations.
None of my friends have ever liked the idea of a pc and always been console and i will play but a m/kb will always rule over a controller in certain games. BREAK THE MOULD ALREADY! you have the Microsoft name how about some compatibility mofos.
That is low, like Lekgolo level low.
It’s a shame 343 are canning split screen coop on PC, it would have been great, it feels like ever since Infinite released, 343 just wanna end the MCC support as quickly as possible and canning features like this is making it easier for them…
I had a feeling this was never going to happen the second the devs went from talking about it being added post launch before it even came out on PC, then going quiet on the feature for months. What ticks me off is that they threw it back on the backlog to give us some hope, then snatch it away. A perfect tactic to lose fans. 343 surely are some incompetent devs, especially on PC.
I was so excited to experience these classic halo games with my wife in couch co-op, which she had never played, but now that hope is gone unless I break out the old Xbox 360. I’m not buying another console, and I’m certainly not buying 2 copies of MCC just to play through the campaigns probably once with her.
Farns said on Reddit there that its still on the list but not cut yet from there development, so its still a possibility.
I seriously hope at some point more Campaign Coop improvements (like bringing back Campaign Matchmaking) and features get added to the list of things to develop for MCC because I really think it needs it beyond just splitscreen.
Has there been an explanation as to why split-screen has been so delayed? A feature that has been core to Halo since the original Xbox and was part of the original MCC on Xbox One but somehow cannot be realised on modern PCs?
I understand that there were networking issues between the PC and Xbox versions which delayed cross-play co-op, but now that has been resolved (or at least has a working version in the latest update). Split-screen doesn’t even involve any networking, so why is local split-screen co-op such an issue?
It is not nearly as frustrating to wait for something if you understand why you are waiting. So has there been an official explanation at some point in the past?
Can this thread stop being revived? The cancellation has already been disproven, and this thread reappearing keeps causing misunderstandings because people don’t look at other posts for some reason.
Ask the OP to edit their post clarifying the matter?
I think the thread is still relevant though, because we still don’t have split-screen co-op, even if it is merely delayed rather than ‘canned’.
Misleading thread title = no bueno.
