Blockquote Eurogamer also notes Halo Infinite’s download size. There are two downloads: one for multiplayer ([which you might already have downloaded as it’s been live for weeks] and one for the campaign. The campaign download requires 62.78 GB of space on PC so prepare appropriately – because preloading is only available on PC, it’s unclear how much space the campaign requires on Xbox consoles.
I can’t be the only one with a rustled jimmy here. The servers will likely get hammered tomorrow and we could be lucky to even play at all tomorrow.
Well, according to the 343dev who replied on reddit to a post with the same question, there is no preload.
The only “preload” is for the gamepass owners who get a placeholder build so the system has them flagged for the ownership of the game and it’s subsequent download. Otherwise no preload as “the campaign shares the same executable as the multiplayer, which was released, and there is no other way of timegating it”.
Here are the comments:
"Hey, I can provide a little bit of context here. The short answer is that Game Pass is encouraging players to pre-install a placeholder build that tells Xbox services that you have an entitlement to the game as an active subscriber.
That way, when the bits do become available for download, you can get the update right away without having to go into Game Pass and select ‘get’.
To be clear everyone who owns campaign will get the update at the same time, 10am PT tomorrow, Game Pass subscriber or not."
"I understand the confusion and in an ideal world, we would have enabled pre-load.
However, there are technical limitations. Since “Halo Infinite” is the base-game executable and is already available for download, there’s no simple way for us to ‘time gate’ some parts of the build (campaign) and not others."
As stated earlier in this thread, there is no preload for PC, everyone is gonna have to start loading together at 10am PST. Pray the global internet holds up.
