PC crashing worse after February update

Played a few games (Steam version) last night and the game crashed three times.

Also, in their notes they mentioned to set simulation quality to ultra. Not sure if this is what was causing it but I will try it back to low and also try out the game pass version.

“I’d also advise all PC players to set Simulation Quality to Ultra in the settings. This setting drives a few of our game systems but, most importantly for this discussion, it controls the amount of time we give to our system that corrects determinism errors on the client. Setting this to Ultra should result in better determinism between client and server. The CPU cost of this is also quite low, so it should be manageable on most PCs.”

Same here. PC on Steam. I havent changed any settings. Last night I thought I’d try to see what my new rank would be and the game crashed 3 times in 7 games. Obviously the game thinks I quit and I got a nice long ban out of it. I rage uninstalled. But even after sleeping on it, I’m fine with uninstalling. If it is going to crash and ruin my rank, then what’s the point in playing it? Whatever they updated broke it further. I’m out of patience. I will play again if they make major changes but it isnt worth my time as is.

And not a single word from 343i. Not even a mention in known issues.

Same here. Never crashed until the update. Now crashing several times a day.

You are not alone… game loads to death in series x when entering a match. happened 3 times the last 2 hours. oh and it counts as wuit.

Same here. Since the game launched I’ve crashed a total of maybe 3 or 4 times. Since the Mid-Season update I now crash once every 30-45 minutes. So basically every other ranked match. At this point I wont be playing until Season 2.

Glad it’s not just me, unplayable at times. Been lucky to only have a couple of full crashes where the game has actually closed but the in-game performance is atrocious. Looking back at one game it clearly wasn’t even just me, based on the game stats after I got kicked out.

Same here. Rarely crashed before rank reset. Crashed 3 out 7 placement matches and several unranked matches. I decided it’s best for me to uninstall and move on for now. No reason to play a broken game. Maybe by season 2 they will fix some things.

Stability & Performance
We’ve been keeping a close eye on reports around stability and performance on PC and console. This update will have a few improvements

Is that right?

One thing that may be of use here is that the flights recommended enabling the optional diagnostics telemetry under Settings > Privacy & Security > Diagnostics & Feedback, setting is called “Send optional diagnostics data”. Depending on which MS telemetry systems they tie into, enabling that may help send better data to 343 to help figure out the crashing.

I’ll pass. I have all my privacy settings locked down. 343i isn’t blind, they know the issues with PC but they don’t have a clue how to resolve them. It’s a dead giveaway they don’t have a clue when they just blame the drivers from all the crashing during their first HCS.

On a random Digital Foundry vid, saw a statement that I think applies really well here - they were talking about bad frame pacing and how it’s something you can straight up see with your eyes, but the dev they were talking about didn’t catch it before a game shipped. Reason why? Their tools didn’t see it as bad frame pacing, it just saw framerate overall and not the pacing. So, since modern devs have “telemetry tunnel vision”, games with bad frame pacing ship often, when the good ol’ Mk1 Eyeball would catch it.

IMO, 343 probably falls into this same trap - telemetry dictates their view/approach to issues. Most people probably have these privacy options locked down, and so they have to try and reproduce internally (I can count on one hand the number of times in the last decade I’ve been able to reproduce a customer bug in my lab, and I bet it’s the same for them), or hope they get telemetry.

For people with constant crashing, it just might be worthwhile to turn on temporarily until there’s a patch that fixes it.
