PC Crashing with Crossfire Enabled

Labeling this to follow the guideline:

  1. On my desktop, everytime I load up Halo Wars 2 with crossfire enabled, it will crash the entire computer normally before I can get into any of the menus. I’ve tried resetting Windows, undoing all overclocks, reinstalling drivers (and using older drivers), and using different RAM (and underclocked RAM). I can get it to run if I turn off crossfire in the drivers, but that’s the only way it will work. Is there a way to get it to work without having to turn off crossfire to play the game?

  2. Desktop specs: Ryzen 7 1800x, 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) RAM, ASUS Crosshair VI Hero motherboard, 2 Fury X GPUs, and loading off a Samsung 850 evo SSD, Windows 10 build 15063.483, version 1703, AMD drivers 17.7.1.

  3. Gamertag: Lead by Faith21

  4. Playing in the US (normally connect to East Coast servers on most games)

Thanks for any help,
LbF21

Checking it out.

Ok, on the machine that you sent me, I’m not seeing a crash from Halo Wars 2. Can I get you to crash it, and give me a date and time that you did? This will help me identify what is crashing.

I just crashed it at 3:03-3:04 Central Time. And it’s a whole system crash, not just a game crash, just in case that affects the logs at all.

It crashed during the “syncing data” section before the main menu.

Ugh, I’m going to have to ask someone for help on this. I will have to get back to you on Monday.

Thank you! Is there anything else I could do to help you?

I might need you to crash against next week, but immediately, there isn’t anything we can do.

This has been sent over to AMD.

That works for me. Thank you for your help!

I will try to follow up on this thread when I hear anything on my side.

I thought Crossfire and SLI don’t work in DX12 games anyway, multi GPU (which is still buggy) is needed if you want 2 GPUs running, SLI and Crossfire need to be disabled for it to work.

A single Fury X should have no trouble running the game, I know it’s not ideal but you’ll probably just have to use 1 GPU to enjoy the game.

I probably have one of the most modern gaming rig with 2 x1070 in sli and the game is crashes so hard that BSods occurs after 10 minutes of gameplay. Can 343 release a patch for sli setups or are we stuck with this. The game even has a setting specifically for multi GPU support, which is turned on. somebody at 343 please give relief to SLI and crossfire users.

Asus ROG Maximus 9 Apex z270
Intel core i7 6700k- 4.2 gh to 4.5gh (overclocked)
2X EVGA GTX SC 1070 (in SLI)
16gb G.Skill TridentZ RGB 4266 (clocked at 3200mhz)
2x Intel M.2 (in raid 0)
Smasung 850 512gb

I know we have an AMD issue of this, but our 1070 tests went ok. I will request this setup in the lab next week to see if we can get a repro.

With most other DX12 games, it just defaults to the primary GPU if multiGPU isn’t working. I believe 343/CA added multiGPU support a few updates ago, but even if there isn’t multiGPU support, it shouldn’t crash the computer with crossfire enabled, it should just default to the primary card. A single Fury X runs the game at 4k just fine, I was seeing if 343/CA knew about this issue and/or if there was a fix for it so I didn’t have to keep disabling crossfire to play it, then re-enabling it after I was done.

Whats your PSU?

im honestly having issues with the game crashing with SLI enabled also… or well I was and I am assuming it was MGPU related… because when I turnred it off the issues were stopping but im not for sure if its MGPU issue or just random out of sync issues… it NEVER EVER crashed before the previous… I think 2 or 3 updates and then WAY BACK after the 2nd update released after the game was released those were the times I NEVER had a single crash and I played it a TON back then… ill play it tonight and get a time and such for you if you could look into it since its been happening at the last update and after the most recent it seems to be MORE common…

intel core I7-6850K @4.0 GHZ
Corsair Vengenace LED 32 GB 3000MHZ
SLI MSI Geforce GTX 1080 DUKE Edition’s
MSI GoDlike Gaming Carbon Mobo
3 SSD’s - NVME M.2 Samsung 960 EVO Running Halo Wars 2
EVGA 1200 Watt PSU @ Titanium Rated Effeciency

Mine has changed behaviors since the YapYap update. With crossfire enabled, it will begin to load, and right after the music starts, indicating the game is loading, the game crashes. So my entire computer no longer crashes, which is an improvement, but the game still crashes until I disable crossfire.

Would it be helpful to submit an error to AMD regarding this as well?

edit: nvm, found it
